In captivity axolotls are part tiger salamander. There aren't any in captivity that are full blooded and the ones in the wild are probably extinct. What we have in captivity breeds like crazy and you can even send fertilized eggs in the mail so that species isn't going anywhere. The only really shitty thing about them Is they need relatively cold water to not die. Aquarium chillers are expensive.
