The only real issues with the Master collection is that they didn't increase the resolution, so the games are 720p just like the HD Collection, and that the audio is WAY too loud to the point that it causes peaking even when you turn the volume down.

The Patriots don't really exist yet, the list of Patriots found in MGS2 was actually the Wisemen's Committee, the leaders of a group called The Philosophers.

The Philosophers are basically just the Patriots before the Patriots were a thing. A lot of this gets explained in upcoming cutscenes and a lot gets explained in MGS4. The main difference between the two groups is the Philosophers' main goal was preventing another World War (which they failed at since WW2 happened), while the Patriots want to control people.

This game has more to do with their predecessors "The philosophers" (a shadow organization made up of americans, soviets, and chinese during WW1) and their "Legacy" (a huge lumpsum of money spread all over the world) it's been mentioned by Volgin and the Boss a few times.
Volgin has a film strip which hold the coordinates of these locations and each country (The US, USSR, China) wants it for themselves
The Patriots don't really come into play until Major Zero/Tom forms them post-Snake Eater with some help from Ocelot who stole the location of the Legacy from Volgin Snake takes a fake that Ocelot left behind, in turn Eva who's a double agent for The Chinese (which was hinted at earlier when it was reveal she carries around a Mauser instead of a Makarov) steals the fake off of Snake

It should also be mentioned that LITERALLY everyone in Snake/Big Boss's support squad will become members of The Patriots at some point. Zero founds them, Para-Medic become "Doctor Clark" and is responsible for Cloning Big Boss (leading to the Births of Solid, Liquid, and Solidus), Sigint joins but later leaves to become the DARPA chief, Ocelot joins but leaves to join Big Boss, then and rejoins, Eve joins but eventual betrays them (She's also Solid, Liquid, and Solidus's surrogate mother (Liquid's hair was blonde because of her))
