She took FULL advantage of the EOP attention she got with that dancing duck meme. She was already positioning herself for that, with English captions for her zatsudans and it PAID OFF big time.

Susan really did a number on her, she was for a period the second fastest growth in Hololive (trailing only post Azur Lane Aqua) then Youtube cracked down on ASMR and it took ages until she got her mojo back (more or less).
She's not reinventing herself with APEX and, if she doesn't burn out she can carve a niche for herself there: not as bad to lose motivation, not as good to attract backseaters and antis.

Update on IRyS sub numbers
>237k
Assuming no sudden surge of subscribers, she more than likely will settle at around 260k. I'm not sure if being in twitter jail might have hampered her from getting even bigger numbers but it's a definite possibility. Then again, she could've sperged out like NijiEN pre-debut which soured me on them for abit. Took me awhile to warm up to Elira and Pomu because of it(the fish is forever on my shitlist though). I'm gonna say at least half of her subs turn out for her debut so around 130k-150K. For reference. Ollie debuted to >50% of her subscribers (60k+) if I remember correctly. The only reason why I'm willing to go as high as 150k is because she's debutting solo. Any anons willing to give me some guesses? (Wish we had a betting pool on here)

Some of the JPs were hit too but only Korone seems to have had as serious and pervasive of a decline.

Today is one of the worst numbers days for EN in months, so it might be interesting to look at some causes. It's the first time EN has had overlapping streams in forever (Kiara, Ame, Gura, Ina members stream), Gura starting at a weird time compared to usual, and Kiara x Gura not being a very synergistic duo are my guesses. I'll wait for a few more collab before jumping on the "HOLOEN IS RECLINING " train tho. Gura just got 24k playing DBD for the 3rd time in a row just yesterday.
At least this kinda shows that there's a lot of unitychads who watch all the HoloEN girls (so they all suffered from overlapping streams).

To be honest, as the gateway to vtuber, she is good, but as a streamer, her quality is kind of bad. Someone mentioned the difference between a professional vs amateur the other day and I think Gura is amateur even when it comes to normal stream like this. Other holos might try to learn a game better if they know they are bad at it, so as to provide a better experience for the watchers. Gura doesnt, DMC3, Metroid, MH are games I think she not bother to learn controls, always need to re-learn on streams. It's boring and people lose patience over time and never come back.

Anyways. Gura's numbers today are probably due to:
- Very early start: Her audience was not going to turn up so early, and are less likely to show up to an ongoing stream. but in any case, when she got to her usual stream time about 1.5k people still showed up, but by then the stream was wrapping up so there was nothing to see.
- Friday: Fridays are usually debuff days in general for most streamers
- Multiple pov collab: the ENs have a LOT of overlap so their numbers are usually low during regular collabs.

And I agree, it's only a buff if the holo is good at it, which Gura isnt. Dedicated fanbase's a thing but many still want to be entertained after all. If one is bad, or show disinterest/frustration at a game, no doubt people will stop watching altogether.

I watch Gura a lot and this is definitely true. Watching her play MHR was quite miserable because Ina and many HoloJPs knew already or learned quickly. Meanwhile, Gura still doesn't know basic CB controls after 12 hours of gameplay and refuses to learn/forgets when streaming. When she played DMC5, many thought it would be an easy enough game for her to button mash, but she struggled a lot with it too. She literally forgot how to use Nero vs Vergil in the final fight of the game despite playing Nero for half the game.
I don't want to tell streamers how to do their jobs, especially when Gura is so successful, but a little bit of effort on actually learning the games she's playing would go a long way to making gameplay more tolerable. It's not a coincedence that games where she does know what she's doing, like DBD and rhythm games, get way higher CCVs than games she's fumbling around and barely getting through.

From what ggg told me, Gura's streaming philosophy is to leave you happy at the end of the stream. She basically wants you to have a good time. Viewership is a good metric of how good gura is maintaining audience attention. So if she sees that fewer people tune in for a game then she knows some people didn't have a good time.

This is why she drops games often. But don't mistake it for her never going to pick it up again. She subtly mentions older streams and teases us that she will play those games again sometime. Her chat reminds it to her and thus a Feedback loop of hype forms around it. I will not be surprised if her next DMC stream would get big numbers.

In short Lex Luthor Gura is in control.

Regardless of how good intention Gura has, it doesnt matter to the general fans, they want entertainment. One too many "How do I do this again", "I didnt mean to do that" turn people off quickly.
There's a reason why fans stay with the JP holos thro a game more often than Gura, they struggle but at least they learn/know what they are doing.

Well tbf, Gura still gets around Miko's numbers usually, so entertainment isn't as big a deal as some of us here are making it. But sometimes with Gura, you can tell she's not really trying to improve her stream quality. For example, Ame clearly spends a lot of off-stream time researching for ways to innovate her streams like 3D SmolAme or studying Pekora's streams to see how to build PPP for the HoloEN MC server. Aqua has said she intentionally practices certain things in Apex when playing off-stream so she can look cooler doing it on stream. Gura's Minecraft streams are mostly her just wandering around and taking 1 step forwards, 2 steps back for her goals. Her approach to streaming seems to be to just dive in headfirst and she'll learn on the way, which works for some games, but is a bit frustrating for others. It's just an unnecessary debuff because it's not related to her best talents, like comedic timing and coming up with clever quips spontaneously.

Hololive isn't even family friendly; they just avoid cursing and keep in line with the agreed YouTube and sponsor guidelines, but a lot of their content may contain suggestive themes or outright mature content. I wouldn't allow anyone under 13 to watch Hololive streams and even then, I'd only recommend it to a 15+ audience.
>>6324091
>The difference's obviously in Western pandering which not only most Nijis don't bother with but some also actively avoid.
This is the biggest problem Nijisanji faces going forward. They were given multiple chances to capitalize on the western market, but neither management nor the chuubas themselves took said chances and made something of it. If they had built some good will, I am certain that they could have made their EN branch not an also-ran that competes on the level of higher profile indies and smaller agencies like Wactor. The degenerate content doesn't necessarily help either. Remember that some of them do shit that wouldn't fly in the west at all and it would cause them problems, so you can understand how some of them may be aprehensive of western audiences.

It’s kinda the issue a lot with the more popular and old guard of Nijisanji. Their YouTube activities are pretty dead which means less people are getting into the fanbase through them.

I think Hololives soft requirement of making them do a minimum amount of streams is what keeps their momentum going.

There's a shit ton of subunits with names who even perform together and make music, but you need to be familiar with the chuubas to know all the units. Where in Hololive, you know that all the girls who debut in a generation are a group that are 'pushed' together.

Comparing Gura to Marine and Rushia is bad because they cater to different demographics. Rushia is more akin to attract people that watch Kiara. They are more entertaining in their SC reading than what they do in any game except when they interact with people. People that watch Marine are more apt to watch people like Subaru who are more inclined to watch for the zatsu. Gura is more likely to attract the same crowd that watches Pekora. They just want to see how the funny bunny or shark will react to stuff. Pekora gathers a lot of JP to her side while Gura gathers a lot of EOP to hers but age wise they are the same. They have the same performance SC wise with Gura having a faster pace. She has accumulated 693k in less than a year while Pekora has 1.6M in 2 years this coming Jul 17. Marine btw has 1.4M all time SCs.

I don’t believe “management bonked Gura for not reading” and would assume it’s more her peers (Kiara, Ina) playfully nudging her into doing so because “people were talking”.

With that said if it’s true and Ina gets a pass there is an easy reason:
>Gura is a full time professional streamer now
>Ina is still a professional illustrator that happens to stream on the side
The time constraints for Ina are much bigger than for Gura, which most certainly is doing nothing on the side and has one and only one professional responsibility right now: to entertain her audience

imo Shien would get around 10-25k while Mashiro's could break 100k. If the guy gets a high number for superchats around 100k+ when he isn't all that popular compared to Ibrahim and Tomoe, I'll call Sus that Ichikara is distributing money to their employees to superchat them so that they could have numbers that could appeal to their investors. I don't get their whole superchat culture thing, they get high numbers even when most of their audience are tourists? Coco had around 4-9k for normal streams, but her asacoco and meme review cultivated enough audience to earn that high of a number in superchats. The same as the top 5 superchats for Holo. I've already had this conversation, it is impossible to coordinate thousands of accounts to send superchats for a single stream due to the upper limit of SC plus that would be sussed out already at this point and there have been dozens and dozens of 3D debuts, many reaching above 1 million yen. If this was Twitch I would suspect it more since you can easilly drop thousands of dollars one at a time, anonymously even.
Nijisanji fans don't usually donate during regular streams like Hololive fans do, due to SC usually being off, wanting to support otherwise via voicepacks/merch, or waiting for special events like 3D or concerts.
>tourists
I'll elaborate a bit on this. Nijisanji is fucking huge. If someone is a gachi for 1 person they'll still show up to the 3D of someone who may be a friend of their oshi, or an interesting chuuba who may do something cool. Mashiro falls under both those categories. People may not regularly watch them but if you know Nijisanji you have definitely heard of him. He streams weird horror shit. His 3D will be a spectacle. No it's not. Her viewership is actually growing (at the same pace of the company)

Did she read SCs in her outfit reveal?

>> No.6330097

Gura's minecraft low numbers are pretty easy to explain: euro timezone, Kiara debuff, and pixel art is boring.
She started at 9k and capped at 14k which is similar to her RDR2 stream she did for the europoors. Kiara was front and center for that collab there was no avoiding her. People most likely tuned in heard the chicken voice, saw them building pixel art and left (I know because its what I did).

It's pretty insane that 10k is "below average" now for holo. It used to be the benchmark for who is doing well.

lol She never read the SC's for her bathtub stream, DMC 3 endurance stream, outfit reveal, birthday celebration streams (collab, cake and birthday). It would be easier to list the SC's she has read since 95% of the time SC's end up going to the void.

We got the numbers now for Suisei's new single.
https://www.oricon.co.jp/rank/dis/d/2021-07-09/
I'm surprised Tenkyuu is actually the one selling better compared to the new single. IIRC Bluerose sold more than Comet so this wasn't what I expected.

On Oricon digital downloads daily chart today: Suisei's new single Kakero is 4th, it's "b-side" Tenkyuu is 3rd with 2,174 units sold while BTS's new single Permission to Dance takes the first spot with 18,232 units sold reminding everyone what actual popularity looks like. Since I estimated Bluerose/Comet sales at around 2,000 on the first day, it's interesting to have concrete numbers that match it for the next single. It's also interesting that the numbers match despite Kakero's MV being late and the single thus lacking a Youtube video on her channel and also iTunes being the sole retailer for the first day. I guess this represents the number of die-hard JP Hoshiyomi who actively follow Suisei and are ready to dish out cash at the first opportunity. Although it does seem that some new people were brought along by the new release, since Suisei's entire discography charted on iTunes Top 200 by the end of the day.

Tenkyuu's 8.6M views (third most viewed video on Suisei's channel) seem to have made it do better than Comet with it's 3.6M views (sixth). It's kind of amusing to see that Tenkyuu did better than the new release whereas Comet did worse. Tenkyuu's instrumental, which is from the actual b-side, also hovered around iTunes Top 200 until evening whereas Kakero instrumental never made it to the chart.

As they should be. Superchat reading streams are just crappy zatsudans with distractions and it's unlikely for the person who superchatted to hear her "thank you" 2 weeks after. Imo, either speedrun them at the end of the stream or never read them like Suisei. In the context of numbers, they're also number killers. Do NijiJPs even read superchats?

Suisei gated by BTS and Yoasabi again... At least it's not Yonezu this time. Also, Tenkyuu is one of Suisei's most popular songs so people have been waiting for a chance to buy it for a long time. It's usually rare for vtuber originals to even make the daily top 10 right?

This is perhaps a tricky one to predict. On one hand, he's debuting during JP primetime on a weekend whereas Roberu had to debut on a weekday (when there's less people who are free) so Shien is technically guaranteed to get a good thousand of people to watch him tonight. On the other, he's middle of the pack in terms of popularity unlike Rikka, Roberu, and now Astel (who will definitely surpass him in subs in a few days) who are more known than him in the vtubing sphere.
Not sure about SC but I predict he'll get around 10k viewers for tonight. Perhaps ~15k if he manages to rope more viewers in with whatever the hell he's got planned.

Gotta say this must be some "cultural mismatch" because these "flowerstands" truly look like the things given for "funeral wakes" when people die in the multiple countries I lived.

Nips use that for day to day celebrations too?

Hmm actually not really. I only follow Holo ori songs but they're usually well within daily top 10 on first day. The hard one is securing a spot in weekly top 20.

The Aki x Mel sub curve is definite evidence that "saviourfagging" doesn't pay off in the long term.
Aki is not very far from where she would have been regardless of that sub jump when that famous clip dropped.
It made for a nice gesture and an emotional moment but it didn't address the underlying issue that is
>FUCKING NOTHING
Aki doesn't need more subs if it wouldn't become part of her audience or even remotely interested in whatever she does.
What she needed back then was emotional counseling to, like Choco and Roboco, just do her thing and be happy with it.

Kenmochi. Barely turn on superchats, doesn't acknowledge when they pop up on screen, never do superchat readinngs. Though he does quite a bit of offline events, merchs, and recently started selling Blu-ray/self-designed goods.

Mayuzumi, doesn't turn on superchats, not even recently on his return/outfit reveal stream. Took out 1M yen out of pocket for a random janken tourney. Donated 10M yen to orphanages.

That clip/moment was her enlightment anon-kun, it wasnt suppose to be a saviorfag moment. Many just misinterpreted it. She was just sharing about how she kinda hit a wall and not sure what she with where she want to go with her vtubing stuff. Welp in the end she just decided to do whatever she comfortable with and not push herself to hard. She was only asking rosentai to understand and keep being with her on the journey together.
