I think that's the main worry regarding this kind of strategy. It would be different if NijiEN was the gateway since the influx of new viewers might enough to sustain a sudden influx of new chuubas. The problem is they're not the gateway, Hololive is. IRyS who just debuted less than 24 hours ago has more subs than the entirety of NijiEN combined. Her debut had almost double the amount of people compared to all of NIJIEN + plus that weird post debut segment that they had combined. So what ends up happening is most new viewers stick with Hololive, the people who don't tend to gravitate towards Vshoujo despite the fact that they're from a different platform (Vshoujo clips get a ton of traction, more so than anything from NijiEN), and NijiEN gets left with crumbs. Whether those crumbs are enough to sustain another 3-6 chuubas within a quick span is still up in the air

I predict that IRyS growth will slow a lot, especially compared to the high expectations people have for her. People went in with high hopes (hence the views), but not everyone was ultimately satisfied. Not just from the design, or singing, and whatnot, but also by her stream times. Not everyone is happy. We shall see though, but I have a good record for these sort of predictions so far. I kinda wonder how long it'll be before another JP Gen debuts for either company and how much hype they'll have behind them?
The last NijiJP branch to debut we're the power rangers led by Chigusa and checking their performance its abysmal compared to HoloID, a literal sidebranch of Hololive. Reine, who is the 3rd most popular ID, performs better than them in terms VOD and Viewers. Moona has more subs than them combined with Ollie likely passing their entire branch within 2-3 months. Clearly anycolor saw the writing on the wall (no matter how fucking late it was) and decided to stop recruitment for awhile.
Hololive last debut of course was Gen 5. And although they had a good start, I'll be the first to say that none of them really stands out in terms of consistent Live Viewers and VODs (they do have Lamy for Superchats though). They do perform better as a team than individuals since Lamy and Botan together can get 22-25k consistently with their horror game dates. I still think that Nenecchi has Subaru-type potential where if she ever gets a viral hit she can basically ride the wave and be on top of her gen. But still, the gen definitely underperformed compared to the initial hype (I'm sure the Aloe thing crippled them too).
I'll say that Hololive debuts their next JP Gen either later this year (Nov-Dec) or early next year (Jan-Feb). AlI of them will be at 200K predebut just based on hype. I also predict that only 2 of the 5 will get 100k viewers on debut.
As for Niji, I'm not even sure if they should be debuting any more chuubas since they kinda oversaturated their market already.

For Gen 5, they were doing well, but took a big hit when Aloe retired, then when EN debut only 1 month later. Other than Botan who's always been in the top 10 Hololivers for live viewers, the rest took till January to really come into their own.

For Nijisanji's Selene, I watch them a lot and they had a really bad start.
They debut at the same time as Holo5 with terrible promotion, most people found out a week later that Nijisanji even had debuts too.
They were promoted as a singing group, and they're all great singers, but only Akane really sticks to it and keeps making songs.
Another minus is Nijisanji still does the bs of making the designs first and having people audition for them instead of working with the liver on what fits their stream persona. Other than Ngo, none of the girls liked how young they look and Akane got done real dirty with her plain and wide-eyed character, when she's the most mature of the group with an old lady's sense of humor.
Most of the Selene are decent at english but the Nijisanji Eop buff is weak and the one pushing the most, Akane had to take a break right after EN debut, not sure if they can really take off in that direction.

Wile I agree that Ado's an example of a solo utaite going viral, I wouldn't exactly use Ussewa as the example. Having a song go culturally viral won't necessarily guarantee success at her level *points at Gura and Nyanners*. I feel like it's better to point at Gira Gira and Odo already getting over 50m as examples of repeatable success, especially when most of her vocaloid covers after Ussewa track more closely with the upper end of Hololive's numbers.

Instead, I think I'd point to songs like Jama and Bocca della Verita. They're the big standouts in Ado's catalog pre-Ussewa (>10m) that suggest that "personality" is a significant factor in success. You either have an active persona that draws fans first before the music (eg: chuubas, kpop) or your singing style becomes your own distinct personality (eg: Ado).

In hindsight, Gen 5 and Seirene are a really good case study for the difference in Nijisanji and Hololive's approach. Of course, Nijisanji has a lot more freedom on what you want to do after you get started, but on the flip side if your group has no direction it's sink or swim. When was their last big group collab, last year? Most of them don't seem to have carved out a particular identity for their own too (no thanks partially to the design) compared to the Nijisanji big names.

If you're a driven, creative and ambitious streamer you would benefit a lot from joining Niji, but otherwise you'll just be lost amongst the hundred other livers they have no matter how talented you actually are.

Meanwhile, hololive, while more restrictive, also actively tries to arrange things to play to their streamers' respective strengths. This can be stifling for those with a more creative mindset but also helpful for streamers who are not sure of their identity.
