1. Stream more consistently on a schedule, instead of just when I feel like it.
2. Get to 300 followers and maybe get at least 1 twitch payout.
3. Nothing specific. I'm just doing art and gaming.
4. Follower count and engagement with my non-art tweets. (and art tweets, but that's different measure of success)
5. It's steadily growing and some people are following me even when I'm not live, so word is getting around at least.
6. Milestones I've gotten or want? I guess I did get 150 followers, though at least 80 were from old account and probably dead.
7. Don't worry about streaming while a friend is streaming. Everyone streams at the same time and it's just inescapable the more friends you make.

>3- What is a specific aspect of vtubing you are working on right now?
I answered the rest in a previous thread last night, but this is a new question.

I'm working on getting rid of my "uhms" and "uhs" by learning to just pause and let there be silence. It's really difficult and I'm having a ton of trouble with it because going "uhhh" to fill in the gap where my brain is trying to think of something new to say is so natural. I've been doing this for over 20 years of my life and I'm trying to slowly unlearn it.

If any anons have a good resource on how to deal with that, or if they've found a way they've handled it themselves, I'm looking for suggestions.

>> No.6342599

So far I've just been practicing saying something while recording. I feel bad with how much silence there is while I gather thoughts, so it's not working out well.

Yeah, I'm finding out very quickly it's a lot more difficult to be doing so many things at the same time. Playing the game, watching chat (I get no viewers, but just in case someone pops in, you know?), and trying to carry a line of thought in my head and verbalize it properly. It's a lot harder than I thought it'd be, so I'm falling back on habit, which is to fill in dead air with "uhhhh" and "uhmmmm"

Made me go back to watching some of the HoloEN's early streams, like Gura's Minecraft streams and I'm blown away by how effortlessly she just has a conversation by herself (because chat's moving way too fast) over 2-3 hours.

>1- What are your short term goals? (4-5 months out)
My short term goals were to keep up a consistent streaming schedule, do a weekly japanese lesson, and collab with other vtubers
I mostly have succeeded on the first point with the longest gap between streams being a week due to life issues, and this week has been a bit shaky too because of family visiting but for the most part i've managed four streams a week
the second part has been somewhat shaky because the further i got with me lessons the more I was afraid that I would be leaving people out. i recently have taken to a newer approach for grammar that I'm hoping feels a bit more accessible though!
It wasn't until a month into vtubing that I did my first collab, but since then i've had a fair amount; i don't really ask for them but i've never rejected an offer from someone asking to do one!
2- What are your long term goals? (6 months and beyond)
My long term goals were to have covered an entire textbook worth of japanese grammar on stream and to put out multiple cover songs!
In regards to the JP lessons, I did get about 75% through with the textbook I was using but as I mentioned, I took a look at what I was doing and sort of went back to the beginning.
as for the the other goal I've put out a couple covers and recorded the vocals for some others, so i'd say i've succeeded there! I've also put out random short sloppy covers on twitter that aren't mixed by someone with mixing knowledge which is always fun
3- What is a specific aspect of vtubing you are working on right now?
I'd like to improve my networking and outreach, especially towards non-vtuber related communities
4- What are metrics are you using to measure your progress?
I guess average viewership and social media interactions are the only quantifiable things I can think of but its not something that I really worry about all that much?
5- Are those metrics useful and helping you out?
I think it helps me know what people do and don't enjoy; I've had some streams that have high numbers and other that have low numbers when they're the same content
6- What are some personal milestones? (non-numbers based)
I was able to do an 11 hour stream recently and it was really fun to push myself to pretty much be talking the whole time! and I know you said non numbers related but during that stream i was somehow able to maintain a consistent double digit viewership after a reid which felt really satisfying!
7- With what you've learned so far, what's some advice you would have told yourself?
I could have networked and PNGtubed a few weeks earlier instead of streaming on a different account to get my reps in
Networking in general outside of vtuber circles is something that I should have done from the start!

I want to get used to streaming, and have at least one stream where things don't go wrong. I know I should embrace the scuff, but that doesn't make it less shit when I have to take a few minutes mid-stream to rejigger audio-levels.
>2
Hit affiliate, find people to commission for L2D art/rigging, and get some growth with fans on Twitter, rather than other chuubas
>3
Networking. I've done some, and it lead to a decent chunk of growth, I just find it exhausting, because going after bigger chuubas is clout-chasing, but I dislike men-in-hoodies.
Also, filler words. I'm good at avoiding dead-air, even if it's just chatter. But I need to avoid umming and ahhing for this, because I do know what I want to say, i'm just used to peppering my speech with them to slow down; also I need to be more concise and non-repetitive in my speaking, as well as avoiding circular reasoning.
>4
Average Viewers, and proportion of chat that's messages, not commands.
>5
Sort of. I need to switch things around a bit, and figure out whether growth per game is better on different days or longer streams. I don't have enough data yet.
>6
Non-numeric? I guess make networking more natural. Currently, I set aside three half-hour blocks in the day, and sit down and search twitter for smaller chuubas, and start answering questions they've posted recently, and going back to previous notifications.
It's fucking tiring.
I also want to expand networking so it's not just female chuubas. But all the small male streamers (probably including me) are terrible.
>7
Consider spending some cash on transitions. They're too hard, and it's going to take you ages to learn how to do them.

Get any sort of traction. Hopefully have better internet by then so I can stream big boy games.

Right now I'm collecting a bunch of images to kitbash a png out of with my very bad image editing skills. Also got a macro pad so I have a dedicated way to change expressions and stuff.

Live viewers going up as I continue streaming.

short answer, no.
long answer, don't look at it terms of established talent, but rather what VALUE you bring to your audience. you're essentially telling your viewers that they should exchange some amount of hours of their day to watch you, so what is the value are they getting from it?

you've got youtube channels like VSauce, Hank Green and Kurzgesagt who do educational stuff, but people still watch them because they're getting some value out of the videos they watch. ask yourself what value your viewers are getting from you regarding you personality and gaming skills. the easiest question is to rewatch your streams and ask whether you would watch yourself.

Remember /asp/ies, your voice should be in the yellow, not the green. The game's loudest noises should barely touch the boundary between the two. It's better for the viewer to have to move the volume slider down a little than to strain after having maxed out all the volume sliders.

Set up a 1:4 or 1:8 ratio Compressor near the top of the yellow and a hard Limiter before it goes into the red.

wanted to post this here to get some feedback; I used a similar layout a while ago but I went back and modified it so I could use it for 16:9 and 4:3 streams
I know a lot of people talk about what is and isn't too much when it comes to overlays; some people talk about how all you need is a chat to go along with your game, others prefer to have chat/follower/sub/dono notifs + name of game + other moving pieces so I tried to settle for something in the middle with just followers and subs + chat
I also wanted to commit hard to the Fire Emblem aesthetic since that's a majority of what I play; would this layout seem off for any other game being played on it?

I'm currently streaming to <5 viewers most streams, peaking at around 8; not yet hit affiliate, and made no money from this at all.

Currently getting to grips with making everything I can (I'm shit at art, but I can learn how to use programs and make stuff using the PC).

Is it worth making my own, low-tier, transitions and the like? Like the old Batman ones, with the logo bounces in and out of the camera?

Currently, I'm just using a fade effect, but it's basic. I've looked into getting transitions, but I don't actually have a logo yet, so I'm looking at $30+ per transition that isn't just the logo sliding in and out.

Also, I guess, should I be aiming to keep transitions themed? I've found a few places online that offer free stingers, no accredition needed, but they don't exactly fit with the avatar or game I'm running, so it seems stupid to use them. But is it more or less stupid than a scuffed homemade one, or a generic logo one?

i'll be honest, transitions don't make or break a stream. if you're capable of making your own, go ahead and try! you're not going to lose anything and you might learn some more skills.

a good source for some free transitions however is this user on pixiv booth
https://virtualreaper.booth.pm/item_lists/nPGTJl5m
they're super simple but it gets the job done. if i were you, i'd focus on a readable overlay first if you don't already have one, cause you have to remember that transitions are literally 1 second of your stream

Seconding looking at PC's staffing, I think having an art or creative director is a good call. Obviously there's differences from using different artists, but they're reasonably consistent on character designs and other art, whereas the differences in other agencies are really obvious especially for collabs.
That said unless you have a good idea of how you would differentiate yourself, you'd really have to be doing it as a passion project and be prepared to piss away money.

In general, plenty of royalty free music sites out there for music. You can look into gaming forums and sites for free sound effects in terms of gaming sound effects (unity has a lot of cheap or free sound packages you can pull from)
You can look into free film resources as well, they have a lot of the normal ones.

Though keep in mind if you're using free resources, a lot of times they're common so people will get a giggle out of hearing the generic clang sounds.

As a streamer, you'd need a reason for me to sign with you.

Presumably, you get a cut of my profits (unless you're laundering money), as you need to make the money somehow. The other option is you open a new revenue stream (like merch), and I get a cut of that (because I own rights to my current avatar).

If I'm losing money to you, but maintaining my current character (because as a new agency, who's taking some of my money, why would I start with you as a fresh character?), then I'd expect someone to do all the Charlie work.

Currently, for example, I hate having to find decent royalty free music, having to hype people up before a stream, and having to moderate chat.

Finding decent artists for skebs/commissions can be a pain, but because I'm looking for art that I like, it's not something I could easily pass off.

You'd need a PR team, and a few gophers, essentially.

Calling people out without providing alternatives is what makes you a crab.
There'll always be flaws with any training regime, the point isn't to min-max at the start. Everyone has their own plan that works and ones that won't work for them, its something they figure out and work with after they have experience, to get started you just need 'some' plan to work with and then expand on from there.

If a fatty asked me how to get into shape, I'd say walk a few miles a day and do 50 pushups/situps/squats every day. Is it the ideal? No, but its easy to do and it gets them started on the path, after they lose a few pounds they can start adding in weights and training specific to what they're aiming for. But starting them off with something simple gets them to the starting point of caring.

don't know of any good real time de-essers that won't add latency, most filters add a (kinda) noticeable delay. might not be that bad if you're just using a png, but once you get a live2d model, the desync will be noticeable.

would definitely recommend a separate mic if you can afford it. i personally use an Elgato Wave 3 because it comes with a software mixer and it's very convenient. you can also go the XLR route with the Scarlett Solo and a Shure SM58 (i think that was the combo recommended last time), but it also takes a bit more braincells

that aside, you can made trad art streams work, there was a bob ross knock off for awhile that did it. and wine drinking painting tutorials are a real world thing that people go to where an instructor just tells people how to paint a cat while they get drunk on wine. so i imagine it would be easy enough to port that over to streaming if you really wanted.

vtubers are not any different for normal avatar youtubers, the only aspect they could be is in the stream content, where vtubers tend to stream things like game or normie casual things, like talks, and avatar youtubers tend to do video comments. Even a lot of unknown vtubers just use static images, and the range of avatar youtubers is very wide, some use animations, others even puppets with animations and all the shit.
Puppets youtubers, 3d youtubers, vtubers, etc, all of them are avatar youtubers in general terms, so it doesn't matter what type of visual or audiovisual format you are using, it only matters that it's consistent with itself and that it's attractive in some way, and that whoever is speaking behind is interesting

Why do people jump top such extremes when Twitter is brought up? You don't need to just constantly be on their dick. Follow and occasionally reply to people whose content you like, make some memes and twitter content worth sharing, post art and pics of your model. Just look at what other people are doing, you need to network and make friends if you want to make it, no one gets by on their own.

I doubt they care about follower count because as morbid as it sounds, a streamer with a very small follower count, even with great content, is absolutely going to obey a corporation like Nijisanji if brought on. No drama, no fuss, and weaker negotiation skills, because why would you argue with the company that made you popular when beforehand you were nobody? Meanwhile a massive chuuba with a huge following (relative to other indie vtubers) is going to feel a bit more brazen in not following the company line since the power dynamic is a little more even. Using OBS (or SLOBS, or whatever), record locally rather than Twitch.

Start with a 30 minute video - record you playing through a single mission, session, or whatever. Give yourself a (relatively short) endgame to push through.

Now re-watch it. Check to see how badly you messed everything up. Did you say your real name? Did you accidentally break confinement?

How much dead-air did you leave?

How much blathering did you do, umming and ahhing over nothing?

Maybe do this a few times - set aside an evening after work/college to do it three times, and see if you improve after each of them.

Then go live for real the next day.

So not necessarily, from a management perspective.
While you can take advantage of new blood like that, that's usually not the intention of these companies, they want you to be successful because it makes them successful. Doormats who can be walked on mean they're also no confident, have no plans, and will be unwilling to put forth ideas or plans to management that they want to do personally which gives management something to work with.

Entry level first time employees do that all the time, they come in expecting to be told everything they're supposed to do and don't provide any ideas or skills other than warming a chair because they're afraid of offending anyone or coming off stupid. A streamer with history has confidence and ideas to bring to the table.

just fucking hit "start stream"
no one is going to watch your first couple streams anyways, just stream, and use it as a way to find issues like bandwidth issues, encoding issues, dropped frames, mic issues
then watch your stream after wards
you're going to hate the sound of your voice and think it was cringey but that's fine, find some things to improve on and then hit start stream another day and repeat

having your first stream be a big debut is god awful and only works for corporate chuubas. The reality is they do this shit internally even before their debuts, they practice stream locally and on private accounts to work everything out.

the added benefit is you will take time to amass any kind of viewership and following and can both build a small following and practice to improve at the same time if you just hit "start streaming"

You people need to stop obsessing over an audition that 99.99% of you will never hear back from.

twitter will link the two accounts permanently together, or link them to your other social media
once this happens you cannot undo it and it will recommend accounts back and forth across the two
facebook, instagram, twitter, tiktok all do this and I have no idea how to prevent it
