Management gave them too much freedom and they hired shitty people which led to inner circles, bullying, pandering to terrible twitter crowds, shitty social politics, and toxic communities which ended up in infighting and catty behavior and all that ruined the mood of the branch and the community.
Like it or hate it but vtuber communities have an influence over the people that join them to follow a vtuber and NijiEN made it very clear which sort of community it welcomed and they became a filter that kept new people away.
Say what you will about HoloEN but at least they keep shit professional and the community might be full of unironic simps but they are not overly toxic.
