I also do this. I started off young and made sure to always keep at least 2k on me for a sudden emergency that I would NEVER touch unless it was vital, like a full-on failure of a vital house component. (fridges, cookers, whatever, basic replacements that could fill a gap very quickly)
I also had another 2k for more casual but still lower priority uses, like if I really needed some new hardware and there was a great deal going on.
Those 2 numbers only increased as I got older, as well as vacation fund.

Living frugally doesn't mean you need to suffer, just buy properly good shit, make your own food, eat and drink less crap, eat less period because most people likely eat too much as-is, especially on this board.
