Though, the longer I listen to IRyS, the more I find her personality lacking. Just being honest here. Once a responsibility like Hololive falls on your shoulders you're going to be overwhelmed, it's more about absorbing and adapting than giving your own input, look back on the first few streams of EN1, they weren't very different and interacted with chat in the same way.

I don't follow Mel that closely, so I could be wrong, but my impression is that the difference between Aki and Mel is how engaged they keep their audiences during their slow periods.

Both of them haven't streamed that much lately, both have their reasons, but while Aki is always keeping her fans up to date between streams, talking about how she really wants to stream again on twitter, doing almost daily twitcast streams where she's just either exercising or taking a bath and talking about her day and so on keeps people engaged. She'll be busy for a while but it won't feel like she was away for that long, because we were still keeping up with her. On the other hand, Mel feels like she just sort of disappears between streams. It feels like she uses her twitter more as a stream announcement than a form of interaction.

This is totally fine for people who watch everyone and won't even miss them when they disappear, as it's the case with me for most of their breaks, but is probably not as good to grab the regulars who will help you punch above your weight in superchat.

This is actually a pretty decent take, I didn't realize that Aki made such efforts between streams to keep in touch with her fanbase. While I wouldn't consider Mel the most disengaged in the company, she does have periods where she does disappear like you suggested.

This kinda reminded me of a rather curious take I read elsewhere a month or so ago; someone stated that while everyone else in the company has met with varying degrees of success since joining Hololive, there is an argument to be made that Mel has flopped somewhat since joining (This is even with setting aside the whole hiatus and manager fiasco). Although Mel isn't the only one doing double duties so to speak, she seemingly is the only one struggling with it to the point she isn't growing with HL and is losing fans with other work.

Tbh Mel is an anomaly. She is by no mean got any kind of debuff aside from constantly get ban. She looks unmotivated and not at the same time. Unlike Aki who active on her social media and other platform, Mel still beat her in term of growth rate. There's anon who provide her and aki's chart in the /number/, there's week when Aki got 0 subs but Mel still got hers despite not streaming as much too.
