Vtubing is dependent on SOVL and many things that are common in other industries are met with heavy backlash(like replacing the VA of a character). Jumping between companies is a bad look especially when the companies are well known.

From her perspective Tsunderia were using her as an established indie chuuba the same way they used Kana to build up their brand. Leaving when Kana did was kind of a dick move but not unreasonable since she probably felt out of place as the only one that had an existing indie persona that forced her to balance streams between the two. They may have even pressured her to choose between them or her indie persona which lead to her graduation as she chose the more successful one rather than gamble on Tsunderia. Even if she stuck with Tsunderia there's no indication Ria would've inclined or the brand would grow much. Even their new talents aren't really getting nearly as much hype/engagement as Prism Gen 3, their most comparable competitor/sister company.

Not saying she was in the right but it's not always black and white. If her goal is to be a successful full-time vtuber then sticking with Tsunderia would've just damaged her career. NijiEN at least is a much more successful brand than Tsunderia and make enough money off superchats to live off of as a full-time streamer. Once memberships roll out she'll be able to commit fully and not have to worry about working her way up the indies/small agencies grind anymore.

People are mad at how shitty she behaved toward Tsunderia. Joining just to waste their money and time without even bothering to stream. She streamed like 3 times, saw that she wasn't getting hololive numbers, then stopped, without ever even putting in the effort. Despite all the money and effort Tsunderia put into her.
Her and Kana leaving at the same time kicked Tsunderia over while it was still in the early stages. It would be like if Suisei and Sora left Hololive and just left Miko and Roboco alone at the start, it would have murdered hololive from the start.

And people are saying its normal to move up, but the problem is that she likely heavily implied she was extremely invested in tsunderia and was planning to stick around for the long haul. Which is why they gave her a newer (and better) model which she likely wanted herself (considering Yuuna was allowed to keep hers) and her own original song long before everyone else. So its not that she "moved upwards" she moved upwards after lying about what she was going to do for the group and making them invest in her more than they would otherwise without ever providing anything in return for their investment.

Anecdotally, Ria was averaging 100-130 viewers and Miki was in the 70-100 range. After the rrat graduated, it was 90-120. Both of their graduation streams were about 6-8x their normal viewer counts.

It doesn't really matter that Miki pulled worse numbers than Ria or if she "deceived" Tsunderia into thinking she was invested in the long-haul. Most Nijis are only part-time streamers and don't stream every day. Their original songs are actually high quality compared to some of the poorly mixed trash Cover puts out. It's just Hololive has a reputation as the "idol company" while Nijisanji are just streamers, so if your dream is to be an idol and sing in front of a crowd you'd probably feel like a better fit in the company that specializes in that one thing?
