Goslings don't choose to be goslings, they just become them when they fall in love with their oshi. It's not possible for most to just *stop* loving someone. Once you become aware of having a gosling mindset and maybe also realizing how dumb it all sounds, at that point you can then consume the streams as entertainment value, not as relationship fuel.
To me, it's like having a crush over a video game/TV show/anime character, except there's an actual VA in that character. Perhaps that's what the goslings latch on to initially?
When I gosling'd in the past, I felt an untimely dread, the fact that the vtuber may have fucked that male, or the fact that she may be lesbian. They may just be in a long, seemingly endless cycle of grief, never hitting the acceptance phase, that is until they realize the truth.
But I've long past the acceptance phase, and I now only see vtubers as mostly entertainment and the "funny moments xd haha", but unironically.
When I stopped gosling, it improved me mentally and I realized that I should be taking care of myself rather than akasupa'ing the chuuba. I laugh at the other goslings, knowing that when the "truth" hits, they'll go full autism and shit up threads.

It's not about that at all. When an oshi has male voice on stream or verified BF what that means is that goslings no longer feel like the chuuba needs their company. When a vtuber ends the stream goslings like to feel that the chuuba to some extent can't wait to stream again/interact with us. If that vtuber has a boyfriend then she doesn't need our companionship outside of money. The dynamic between vtuber and viewer stops being "someone wants to hang out with you and you give her money sometimes" and becomes "someone just got done making out with their IRL man and has to stream so you can pay her rent".

This argument sounds like a gosling insisting that he's not a cuck even though there are thousands of other guys like him who love their oshi just as much. However, I insist that goslings are not necessarily cucks, it's just a matter of simple heirarchy. Goslings are all equal and none of them outrank the others. They're all in the same boat. Goslings only become cucks once their oshis have boyfriends, because boyfriends severely outrank goslings on the heirarchy.

I've accepted several times over that Calliope Mori of Hololive EN will never know my name or face and I will never wake up to her sleeping by my side. But if I found out tomorrow that she had a boyfriend I would find a new oshi immediately.

Yeah that's how I've always felt about it. I'm not saying that vtubers without boyfriends can also be milking their gig for money or that vtubers with BFs never care at all about their fans but generally there's a pretty clear difference. If she has a boyfriend, that breaks the glass-strong reality constructed in our heads that our favorite vtuber would genuinely like being with us even if she didn't make any money off it.

I guess another thing is that we can spend so much time watching streams that we can play pretend having a significant relationship with the vtuber. Mori spends a lot of time talking to us about some personal things so the relationship almost feels real. Even though we accept we will never have her we still have moments with her, so we can delude ourselves into thinking "Maybe what we deadbeats all share is something pretty intimate and special". Again, this is all pretty much a cope and not based on reality so once word of a boyfriend goes around then this play-pretend relationship gets destroyed.
