This has been something I've been thinking of while thinking up a character design. Is it a good thing to consider or retarded?

So I'm considering trying to start something of an "Arena" styled function for content, where it'd basically be built for participants of all sorts to drop in (VTubers welcome to participate, but not necessary), try to win what they can, and I want to also just have things like a little trophy room/hall of fame I could update over time and put names for people who win lots of matches or specific challenges and let it grow over time. The games I'd choose for it would regularly change (Maybe have like, two weeks sectioned off for one game, have people play as much as they want, and have weekly exhibitions/tournaments before moving to the next one), and I could try to seek perms where it would matter. Other than the most obvious problems:

>Contracts that might hamstring me with certain VTubers
>Pointlessly high effort for just streaming mostly regular content
what would be the other potential problems with doing this? I feel like I /could/ do it, but I also feel like the absence of anybody else doing this is a silent warning of something I haven't been able to predict.

Anyways, the common stance is that its good to not have a so simple design, because it can very well happen that you come up with something unrecognizable from daily life attire, fashion, or similar.

IMO color coordination is more important than silhouette in design for vtubers

An easily replicatable design is a double-edged sword. One one hand, you're making a concept that others can very rapidly and easily remake and create in other forms (powerhouse icons like Pikachu and Minions prove how far that reach can carry you), but on the other hand, it needs to be striking enough that it's easily remembered AND it needs to be unique enough that it won't instantly be mistaken for something else completely unrelated. You could make a character who is wearing a white button-up t-shirt with a black tie and black slacks, but every person who sees you will instantly think you're a busboy, and people who see your cosplayers are going to think they just got off their shifts as busboys.

If I'm gonna be honest with you, something as simple as a particularly weird hairstyle or just really, really good adherence to color theory is enough to make something both easily remade and extremely showy. I know I had this conversation days ago with someone with a similar question, but something like Under Night is an excellent example of this. Yuzu's design (picrel) is markedly visibly striking for many ways, but is also very, very simple when you look at it component-by-component. I'd honestly say the haori she wears over her shoulders simply having a floral trim that matches her hair is enough to bring a lot out of what would otherwise be a really, really simple design framework.

Ah, that's not what I wanted at all. My goal with the concept was mostly around trying to increase the interactability of a stream by opting instead to have a lot of chatters actively participating in the gameplay rather than just watching it. I know of things like Crowd Control, but it's still limited to effectively just being "watch me and sometimes press a button". If it comes across more as "I'm trying to siphon others' talents", then that might be a good place to shelf the idea.

The lower half of the character is very dull while all the major and vibrant colour is reserved for the torso and above. Alright, lemme try to frame it a little better and with more details:

The idea is, as a streamer, to continuously stream an "Arena" wherein I, as host, will take up position as either the observer or the champion or a representative of a team. The focus will be more on regular play of this one game (Maybe even other non-game related competition if I can figure something out more clever than just that) over the course of the week(s) that this game* will be the focus, and when it's Event Time (ideally weekly or more frequently), that's when things will become more solid. For a simple example:
>(Game) King of the Hill, where the people who have been playing this game during this period will basically try to win as many matches back-to-back as possible, with the winner being marked by whoever can succeed the most
>(Game) Regicide, where my audience will each challenge me directly to that same game, and everybody who succeeds will be noted/given a medal/etc., something I'll have to figure out in regards to a reward structure as I figure out what resources I can pool together (maybe VIP or something?)
So when it's time for those big "events", rather than just streaming my own playing of the game, it'll then be shifted towards the other players (either in addition to me, as I want to participate as well, or simply as a spectator, because I want them to play just as much as I want to play), and things will then be based around the structure of the Arena setup for that specific event. In my hopes, the weekly structure can be consistent and functional, and every week I can shift between things like max playercount FFA or simple duels or team matches or whatever, and since I'd rather keep the games chosen to be less static than just saying "This is a lobby where all we play is this one FPS", the ideal would be that players keep finding new things to do in these new games, spend a week figuring out how they want to play as I spend that time figuring out how I personally want to play, and we reconvene at the Arena to share notes live in the form of a big series of competitions/tournaments.

I figure the biggest hurdle would be "How do I get people to participate?", but that's no different than "How do I increase my viewercount?", where the answer for both is simply going to have to be "Figure it out". I'd prefer to avoid things like monetary prize pools and the like, but if that's better for drawing in crowds, I'll work in that direction.

One thing to note with regards to TF2's style is that it thrives because it's built uniformly in an environment where each of the characters are made to match one another. While that's not bad designing on its own, and in fact is really good for recognizability and cosplay, you need to also keep in mind that the only reason why you remember their designs is because TF2 is also an already-successful game made by a highly successful company, and the cast is generally carried design-wise by both its success and fans' favorability to them. I'd argue if TF2 wasn't as well-known or as well-crafted of a game as it is, many people would mock the designs for being uncreative and generic.

I'd say another simpler example is something like pic related. If you look at this concept, it's mostly just a few major components:

>Loafers
>Baggy pants
>Crazy hairstyle
The first three are extremely easy to replicate, and any person who can get their hands on those can find a way to color match them to whatever they're aiming for. The accessories are present, but those are all similarly extremely easy to make while also being flashy enough to stand out. While opening the jacket up might be considered hard for some, a common cosplayer might simply give up on trying to deal with the heart-shaped bending of the coat, and instead just use white fabric and plaster it over top to make the shape they want anyways, still getting the full aesthetic. In fact the only part of his design that would be genuinely hard to do is the wig, but people sell the wigs online anyways, and worst case scenario, if that's the /only/ barrier for a full cosplay, people will bite the bullet, look up guides, and spend whatever money they need to to get that one component done, knowing that's going to be /the/ pain in the ass. And again, if this series wasn't as massively popular and widely renown as it is, this would /also/ be mocked for being a generic gakuran with a little heart-shaped chest "thing". Both cases work well conceptually, it's ultimately about making your simple work stand out, but also recognize that simple isn't a guarantee of success, just a modifier for design theory.

Honestly, when people look at designs they're typically looking for three things with or without realizing it.
1) ease of drawing the design - a child can recognize and draw Mickey Mouse. The essence of "fan art" is that anyone can draw it, not just high effort twitter artists, few discuss this.
2) feature "pop" over feature bloat - they want something about the design that specifically jumps out and grabs their attention over hundreds of things that razzle dazzle them like a McDonalds menu.
3) their favorite color - seriously; people will identify a design with a color so pick one you like and make that your dominant color.

I find its pretty easy to boil most characters down to one or two colors. The ninja turtles are all "green + bandana color". Power rangers and sentai characters are all color coded. Hololives are all pretty recognizable by their colors enough that even with a bunch of them you still have some that stand out as "owning" their color or color pair.
