I imagine... static avatar, suboptimal audio/streaming setup, clearly doing something like this for the first time. I'm not asking "who had the hardest start of all indie vtubers" but...
I'm contrasting it against people who... were clearly professional entertainers before they started being a vtuber, are beginning with a lot of resources, are members of a network of other vtubers who are propping them up as they are starting.
I want to see someone struggle because I am going to similarly struggle. If you see a fish swim, you might say "it's a fish ofc it can swim. I am a fish too" and jump right in. I am no fish but I will swim.

Following filter order in OBS:
Adjust gain on mic until you are in the high green/yellow on your interface
Noise gate high enough to stop pops and taps from keyboard but not enough to cut off speech
EQ with gentle roll offs in highs and lows
Compressor with threshold set about 6db under your peak and high ratio with fast attack/release
De-esser just enough to calm down S sounds, but not so much it makes you sound lispy
Limiter at -6db because that’s where OBS starts actually clipping audio

The key here is if indos still donate more than spics themselves, which would make a hypothetical HoloES possible. WACTOR girls, particularly Hina, seem to be doing okay but one has to wonder if that's good enough for Cover to consider an ES branch.
Nimu has no talents but she has numbers so who knows. Ultimately I think the drama could deter Cover.

To be fair, people will be generally appreciative of art even if you're still in the growing stage. I could post my art here for free and people would enjoy it well enough even if its not for profit.
It gives you something to work toward and improve and gives you that positive reinforcement.

Streaming for 0 viewers is extremely hard because its hard to actually talk to yourself, so the very process of streaming is tedious. And you're also not getting any positive reinforcements. Plus its harder to look at yourself and improve because watching your past streams are a big time investment while looking at your old art just makes you cringe in 10 seconds.

>>8077974
Niji is much more lax about rules. They mostly let their talents do what they like. While joining Hololive would be insane, their standards bar is way too high on top of having some limitations in terms of collabs and games they can play (FromSoftt still NTRs Calli from streaming DS/BB). There's a guy called VRTrapman, he puts a very convincing female and loli voices. If you want more examples, in latin american dubs women often voice children/teenagers. A notable case is Isabel Martiñon, Naruto's dub voice, since she kept dubbing him even in Shippuden because she can still sound like a teenager/young man.

>> No.8096030

>>8095095
Yes, female VAs can sound like young men. There are many examples of such in almost all languages.Trying to go any deeper tends to be harder to do convincingly though. Alternatively you very rarely see men performing little girls or women at all because it's much much harder to do without it sounding like a joke. People seem to want to fight on the point of generality with specifics.

>> No.8096709

>>8096030
Its more because women voicing kids is generally accepted and easier. And hiring men to voice women is mostly pointless in the first place. Why hire a man to voice a woman when you could hire a woman to do the same job more consistently and probably cheaper?
Naturally most men don't have a reason to bother learning how to do it either. The point of arguing with specifics is to show its possible and that men who bother learning how to do it can do it convincingly.

Saying "generally" doesn't mean anything because "generally" speaking the populace at large doesn't know how to do any specific skillset, it doesn't mean its not possible to do them. "Generally speaking" people can't draw anime girls for shit, but anyone who spends a year practicing drawing can easily learn to do it.

>> No.8097314

>Its more because women voicing kids is generally accepted and easier.
Did you just agree with me and then pretend you didn't? Or are you stuck on the fact I said young boys specifically? There are some men who can do young boy voices too, but it's harder to do girls and young girls.
It's hard for men to sound like women, most can't. Most who try don't do well. That's literally the entire point of the discussion. Not that "well, after a lot of practice, some can.". That's not relevant.
"What is a tranny voice?" "Someone who doesn't actually sound like the sex they are trying to portray. It's harder for men than women." "Well X can sound like the other gender." "Most can't." "But X can!"

She focuses on classic lolita fashion and bisque dolls, that sort of aesthetic so I can see why you think of Rozen Maiden when looking at her work. I was originally going to commission Akira Ishida, but I ended up surfing online and somehow found the model that artist made and it was so good and free that I decided I would stick with her instead.
Someone in previous thread mentioned people were not too into lolita fashion, but I feel classic lolita gets a pass because you can easily see it as victorian/classic aesthetics.

Consistency, doing their reps, and reacting to chat.

I did an unmodded Skyrim stream last week. Everyone's seen Skyrim, especially unmodded, even more so the early levels (I hadn't even got to the Greybeards, or started any of the faction questlines).

But it's a self-imposed challenge run. So drop the details of the challenge every hour, and mention the challenge whenever you can (so if you can't do something, complain about it). Whenever someone posts in chat new that stream, explain what you're doing, how it's going, and ask them a closed question (are you having a good day? it's yes/no). Then expand that to the rest of chat, get them to join in with an open question (chat, in general, what interesting things happened to you today? Or are there interesting things you're looking forward to?)

There are 'tipping points' though.

The first is 1 chatter. With nobody actively chatting, you can talk shit about whatever. With 1, you have to carry the entire conversation, and include them.
Second is 2, because now they can interact with other.
Third is around 5/10, because then they'll actively chat with each other, and give you some responses to pretty much everything.
Fourth is when chat is always active, regardless of whether you're asking them questions or not.
Fifth is when you can't keep up with them individually anymore, because there's too many people. Most of us aren't going to hit this point.

>> No.8116746

>>8116439
I’ve actually found the tipping points to be slightly different. For me at least:
>1 viewer
This was the hardest. Moving out of “streaming for fun” and into “streaming for an audience”
Was stuck here for awhile. I think this is the size that it’s no longer “I will watch my friend” and it’s “I will watch a streamer I like
>70-80 views
Partner push destroys your mental health and kind of makes you doubt yourself.
>greater than 150
These days I cannot know everyone in my chat. I would like to believe I know most people, but there are some regulars who I know nothing more than their name and that kind of makes me sad.
>some future tier I do not know of
At this point you ignore follows and probably ignore a lot of subs/small bits. Chat will likely just be emote spam as you don’t know anyone anymore since it moves too fast.

This is probably obvious to a lot of people, but after more than 2 months of just uploading gameplay videos (not streaming), I’ve come to a few realizations.

1. If you can be fast to upload gameplay clips when a game first came out, even if it’s not that well-known of a game or you’re still just a nobody, you can still gain views, whereas if you upload clips of popular games months after its release, you’ll be lucky to have 2 views.
2. Meme clips are only effective if you’re already a big channel, or your channel is dedicated to just meme clips, but it will take a while before your clips take off
3. It’s better to upload 1 clip per day consistently, than to dump a bunch of clips in 1 day. When I was uploading 1 clip per day, my second acc got consistently recommended said clip and some older clips, but when I started uploading around 5 clips in 2 hours, YouTube stop recommending me those clips.
4. When you watch enough of your own clips, YouTube will start recommending other small channels playing the same games. This maybe a good chance for you to do your networking reps.

Hope this help some of you first starter somewhat, or maybe I’m just an idiot and just posted absolute nonsense.

the actual secret here is the novelty factor. just regular gameplay is boring. discovering a new trick that gives you a competitive edge over opponents that no one else has discovered? unlocking a new glitch that shaves off 8 seconds off a world record run? don't think about it in terms of old or popular games vs new games, but in terms of novelty.

>2. Meme clips are only effective if you’re already a big channel, or your channel is dedicated to just meme clips, but it will take a while before your clips take off
this is a weird way to think about it because what do you mean by "effective"? if it's only "effective" for big channels, what is it being effective at? bandwagons are a good way to get eyeballs on you as a small viewer because each new vtuber tiktok trend spreads like wildfire. but don't count on it as a major source of views.

Yeah, these things are the best kind of clips to gain viewers, same for just plain guides and advanced tutorial to a game’s mechanic, but I thought not many can or are willing to do this so I didn’t mention it.

>this is a weird way to think about it because what do you mean by "effective"?
As in picking up traffic and gain subscribers. I uploaded a few short clips for 2 weeks straight, and most didn’t gain as much views as the gameplay clips on average. Then I got recommended a bunch of meme clips from an unrelated channel, looking at the uploaded date and comments on those clips, I came to the conclusion that meme clips only start to be effective at gaining views after a period of time

Networking doesn't mean you pretend to be friends. Never has, outside of people with MBAs and they're basically just people who'd otherwise be dentist i.e scum.
Networking means you establish a cordial relationship with someone under the implicit understanding that you'll help each other because you have different skillsets, areas of expertise etc etc and can thus bring something productive to one another's tables.

Making actual friends is good, and I'd encourage it, but it's not the same as networking nor is it needed.

It entirely depends how much you lean into it. Personally, my lore is pretty barebones, but it's going to drive model updates in the future - I'm a wizard playing with forces he doesn't understand, so I'm going to be learning vRoid, and making stupid gimmicks in a "whoops, that went wrong" style to use for a stream or two here and there.

For the most part though, it's to help distance yourself, and improve opsec. If I say "when I was at Hogwarts", rather than "when I was at the University of Durham", then it's harder to figure out who I am. Not massively useful, as I'm a m*le, but something to bear in mind.

It's also for other sites. So I don't post on twitter "looks like I need a better cooling system, my CPU overheated", I'd do something like "I need a new cooling charm, the spirits aren't happy". It helps posts stand out a little bit.

People love a good character arc. English fluency arc can be a big draw, so I'd say go for it. Balance out the Spanish with English content (besides just speaking, like doing some actual studying from anything that isn't DuoLinguo) and you have a bunch of pre-made stuff to stream. EN<->ES translation streams, word games, comparing dubs of cartoons, writing and reading essays about your hobbies, the sky's the limit. Not all of it is guaranteed to work, but you can experiment and see what works. Best of luck, ESLchuuba!

Brand and design are both incredibly important. A very easy example would be Hololive EN gen 2, without any streams they have tens of thousands of subscribers each. That's a clear example of brand. You can see the effects of design when you examine the sub count differences between these girls who are all under the same brand. As an indie you probably won't be able to take advantage of brand, so if you're new you probably want an appealing design that will get people interested before they've even seen your content.

Reps means repetition to be fair. Every time you try, you get more proficient at the exercise. The first time you make some kind of dumb mistake while networking... you know. A parasocial relationship is where one party has no contact with the other. Those streamers reaching out to you don't qualify, since you actually know them a little. And I guess it's easier for streamers with a manageable viewer base to have something more like a social relationship... like, I could manage actually knowing 20 regulars. 200, no chance, they're getting it parasocial.

That's what I would do. I like to practice diction and it feels like a natural element to read dialogue like I think they would say it.
Maybe a better way would be to use some kind of media that has audio in it, a movie is probably best, and mimic emotional monologues. I find that an emotional register can "click" for me if I do this. It's important to remember that you should only try this with... good actors doing good acting. There are a lot of movies where it's pretty clear the actor is playing a role that makes their motivations really confusing or one dimensional.
I'm not suggesting you talk like that all the time, but if I mimic something well enough I physically feel an emotion and that helps me hone in on it later. It's all about reps, and you gotta get a diet with a wide variety of feels if you want to express them (in a measured and controlled fashion while also accounting for quality control).

Nijisanji in-house software developer here.
You won't see view increases for the initial pass through because the application software they use downloads the form and utilizes the YouTube backend API to download the video directly as opposed to going through the UI or frontend API, so your views won't increase until they start passing your video around at the second level.
This is done so that the videos and applications can be kept together in a .rar file and saved off into a private computer that doesn't have internet in order to prevent the front line managers from accessing other videos on your youtube account and giving some applicants an unfair advantage due to having more videos to "show"

>Ina
>good
Lmao.
Either way they did take a chance with finana. And the Miki wasn't that big either and she got taken on as rose.

In gen 2 selen was the only real numberfag pick and they picked her because they wanted an EN kuzuha.
They'll "numberfag" but that's because typically anybody worth hiring has a following. Even most the JPs had some semblance of a past life to show as a successful track record.

scoring a professional tier freelance artist who turned out to be a pretty decent streamer for their first gen turned out pretty damn well for hololive. you might not like Ina personally, but her numbers already show that she's got plenty of mainstream appeal.

stop chasing holos. you don't have the huge viewerbase inertia that helps you coast through stream 5 out of 8 Yakuza streams. take 2 weeks to just experiment. if you have regular viewers ask for candid feedback. if you don't have regular viewers, who gives a fuck. the point is to experiment and do something different and new.

This isn't a feminine voice what so ever, but it's quite soft and easy to listen to. I don't really know that I'd recommend anything feminine, but some professor route or something may not be awful.
That being said, I definitely do feel like I'm watching one of those 30 minute video game reviews listening to it, but that might just be the subject matter. One of the ones that gets 500k views while people listen to it in the background.

Take a deep breath from your stomach (which should expand but NOT your chest), that's where you should be speaking from. Try to make it so your chest doesn't move if you can, it's mostly a habit you have to train yourself into. Then, try to use that air to speak through your throat, not your nose. You know how people with deep voices always sound like they have a sort of rumble to their voice? That's because those vibrations are going through and out of their throat and not the nose, which would produce a more nasally sounding voice like yours now. If you yawn, try making a noise like a groan while you yawn and you'll get a vague idea of how to project your voice from your throat and not your nose. Train yourself to speak in this way by default, which takes time, and that should work. Hope that helps.

No problem. One thing I will warn you about is that you can't really change your voice per se, just alter it a bit. Don't believe anyone who tells you your resting voice can change from fairy princess to Morgan Freeman without surgery. After that it's just a matter of getting used to it again. good luck and stick with it.
