I don’t think there will be any long term damage to Niji from the debuts.
They might lose some of the casuals as they go look at the new shiny thing but the core fans will stay.
The only things that could cause problems are if Cover found some really amazing people that bring new ideas or there is an overlap with streaming niche.

NijiEn, and especially Lazulight, don't/didn't seem like it was, or would be, all that different to Hololive, especially at the stars where they were still finding their footing and hadn't done anything particularly different, for the western market in general, NijiEn just looked like it would be more of the same.
Sure, they have turned out great and have managed to differenciate themselves from Hololive, even more so with Obsydia, but at the start, it didn't seem like that would be the case, they didn't really give that impression.
