Watch the English quiz collab she did with coco around the time gen 4's collab ban got lifted. You could tell during that collab that it was slowly dawning on her that her English was garbage when Coco started correcting her.

>> No.9469781

Her English isn't the worst, but that's kind of what happens when you don't talk a language you're foreign to daily. You just start to lose your touch with it.

Or I fucked her so hard that she hit her head and became dumber because of it.

She basically sums it up herself she lived 3 years abroad sure but she spent all her free time locked in her room vtubing in Japanese so did not get the full immersion experience. You can't learn a language well just by studying it you have to spend thousands of hours listening to people speak and practicing your own speech.

Also lol at the strongest idol literally being bullied by two grade school strayan lolis.

To learn a language you need to immerse yourself in it like Kiara or Beatani does. She says she didn't make a lot of friends in college so she probably didn't actively force herself to use the language.

>>9469712
and then for irony, there's later clips where it's brought up that coco's english started going to shit from disuse, and her japanese wasn't improving because kanata wouldn't correct her mistakes. communication is harder than people think.

>>9469781
>what happens when you don't talk a language you're foreign to daily.
p.much this. if she doesn't at least go find opportunities to do her reps on her off time, it's going to atrophy. speaking a language isn't like riding a bike, the ability doesn't become an unconciously-repeatable thing just because you learned it, especially when it's not your first language, ESPECIALLY if circumstance isn't forcing you to use it so much that you even start thinking in whatever language you're having to use - the parts of your brain involved in academic things such as languages, complex math, and similar are highly prone to overwriting shit you don't make regular use of.
when you think about it, that's probably also why chimkin and rrat keep throwing around japanese - they realize they'll lose any progress they've made on it if they don't use it. I imagine brapper's japanese is shit for that reason - she probably's spent her time in japan avoiding having to use it, like haato's boxing herself up with work undermined her english.
>>9469874
the whole "strongest idol" thing is a load of horseshit. despite her talent for getting away with shit, she's no less a normal person than anyone else, and having your faults (real or percieved) shoved in your face is demoralizing regardless of whom is doing it.
>>9469952
and that would explain the descent into trying to be the zaniest ban magnet around - desperately trying to find something to consider "hers". unfortunately it's brought the kinds of fans she'd be better off not having.
I stand by my belief she was better when she was simply a weird girl and not LE EBIN SCHIZO BUG EATING MEME MACHINE that she's made herself into. especially since trying to keep momentum with that shit is even more draining that just doing the job normally, which in conjunction with university does not make a good mix for her being able to be active and enthusiastic for either her job or her studies. I worry she's gonna burn herself out, 'cause the candle lit at both ends does not last the night
>>9471310
for memes, mostly. much like "I NO SPEEK ENGRISH GUD", it's something she's playing up for career-attention. while it works, it certainly doesn't do her health, physical or mental, much good.

>> No.9487089

>>9486785
Phonetic languages have their own difficulties, and English is notoriously difficult to sound out, and has intentional spelling conventions because of wide dialectic differences that make reading easier, but learning harder. Especially for japanese speakers it's difficult because their language has a very condensed set of phonemes (few hundred) where English has over 1000 unique phonemes. It takes a lot of training to distinguish between sounds that don't exist in your language

Writing relies heavily on familiarity and expectation regardless of system, and kanji isn't THAT hard to learn, when you consider the millions of Chinks who read Hanzi just fine. Do your kanji reps

Immersion is honestly key, when I was in Japan for my first year with barely any English to go off of since I wasn't living in one of the big cities, my brain went "oh fuck" mode and starts downloading language data en masse, which is further reinforced by constant daily exposure. I'd even argue that written language might as well be an entirely separate field as actual spoken language is very simple and very intuitive to grasp onto, even with all of its honorifics and social codes.
