There is a big difference between "if you just grind enough no battle will be hard XD" and "the game tries to make it impossible to let you get into any fights that you can not win by spamming your strongest attack".
To have any challenge in the 6th or 7th gen you need to turn off the XP share forced onto you or else you are constantly 5 levels higher than everyone while in the games before and without XP share you are 3-5 level below everything and need to strategize - or grind if you can't strategize.
