I think the common thread in Kanata's change ever since she came into hololive is that she's progressively become less self-conscious (in the bad sense of the word) and self-deprecating with time. Stream choices aside, I really wouldn't want to see her go back to how she was a year ago. If you're only talking about stream choices though, I'd like to see her stick to some games for longer too. I don't dislike these one-off streams, but it's so much better when you get to invest yourself into something along with her.

I miss longer series too but I understand why this is happening and it's better this way. She worries about people's expectations too much even without big commitments when she just barely escaped oversleeping hell 2.0 and seems to have schedule so volatile she just sleeps the second she has the opportunity. Remember that not so long ago she didn't even schedule streams in the morning. Things seem to be improving a bit but I want her to go at the pace she's comfortable with.

She did that with hardcore Minecraft and people were whining that it's taking too long. You don't like the game but she does. There's a high chance she simply plays it off stream now. And Kanata makes backseaters mad no matter what game she's playing, Chrono Trigger especially comes to mind. I'm sure she'll start something new once she feels she can take on something bigger.

I agree with you on the "seiso" point, she said many time that she lacked self-confidence and didn't know how to act on stream. The members closest to her like Coco and Marine have often said how different Kanata was off and on stream and it finally feels like Kanata is getting more self-confident these past few months. Especially around Marine its the most noticeable, mainly due to their two offcollabs last week, but even if its slowly its progress and it feels like she isn't shying away as much from acting like she would if she wasn't on stream.

I can understand where they're coming from. In my opinion there's absolutely nothing wrong with liking Kanata's early character but in admitting that it is a character you also have to admit that so far Kanata has shown that she cares about upholding that character at least to some degree. So in that sense it is protected consciously by Kanata herself and won't become corrupted by outside factors.

kanata was never seiso. her debut stream was off the chart and a bit insane in a comical way. she was already pushing her un-normie side and japanese internet subcultures and sort of "bro" stuff.

shes also seen as a sort of pure girl who doesnt know much about ero things. shes an idol otaku and wants to act like an idol in a certain situation so part of her ideal is a bit far from being too open about ero stuff.

the relationship between kanata and marine doesnt have any influences on anyone. i for one was very glad about it. both marine and kanata look happier than before like now they constantly tweet about each other, talk about what they are/were doing offline. knowing their offline/irl stuff is nothing but fun. every fan wants to listen to the stories.

Kanata's hard-to-pry-in personality is definitely both an appeal and a repellent to becoming a fan, depending on who you are. In my case that's one of the things that made her stand out from the rest when I was starting to know hololive, but the general audience is usually more rewarding towards people who wear their hearts on their sleeves, or at least can convincingly give off the impression of doing so. Kanata doesn't even try to hide the fact that she has a gloomy personality she purposefully tries to keep away from her streaming, or that she avoids bringing it up on stream when she's feeling tired or unmotivated, or that she's had to learn how to express her emotions in order to stream because of how bad she was at it, but the fact that she has this objective 4th-wall breaking look on herself and openly talks about it with her viewers is one of the things that really made me start to like her.

Being self-aware while also being honest about it is really hard. I don't think I would ever describe Kanata as pure, just naive/not knowledgeable, she unashamedly acts both pervy and "gross" on stream. Even that naivete isn't there as much though still present, mostly closer to debut times.
I agree that the friendship between Kanata and Marine has been a massive positive on both of them, they often say on stream how when they need advice/help they always ask each other first and from what they say they talk and hangout irl very often.

One thing about old Kanata people often overlook is mic and room quality which changes how you perceive the voice. Pre-Holohouse Kanata sounded different from when she moved. The current setup makes her sound closer and her voice has more depth and detail to it now, it doesn't have that bump on the high mid she had in the first months. People rarely pay attention to it but it does matter a lot to your brain. Not to mention she's one of the rare holos who has an actual working compressor.

I can think of a few pretty easily:
Low dedicated foreign fanbase leads to less english discussion about her.
No dedicated and active clipper like other members.
Usually there are no live translators in streams due to how difficult it is to live tl Kanata (same reason even someone as big as Marine doesn't usually have live tl).
A lot of what we know regarding Kanata's behind the scenes personality came from other members (Coco and Marine mainly) so some of the fanbase will miss it.
Also a lot of the moments that show other sides of Kanata tend to only show up during collabs with people close to her which tend to be rare, the collabs with Marine over summer where a pretty big shift from Kanata's usual on stream demeanor where they acted pretty much like they would off stream.

part of her talent is very traditionally japanese, but its not all about her. shes also very modern. like i said, her personality crosses many genres borders. she often uses very formal hyojungo expressions and acts like some trained geisha, but also uses a ghettoish kansai dialect like a loud aunt. on top of that both versions of kanata arent awkward at all. she can balance very naturally between such contradictory things. she has many such cross-boarder characteristics. not to mention, all of these are hard to translate because heavily cultural.

although you can enjoy her without being aware of these things. most of her streams dont have so much with these things. shes cute and fun enough without them. plenty of jp fans just enjoy her cuteness. in mc/zatsudan streams or sc reading, she often brings them. or in her own unique/quirky streams.

One day Kanata will have enough sense of self-worth to freely collab with whoever she wants again.

Kanata is really fast and loose with her eigo interpretations on her regular streams but it felt like she's limiting herself on purpose on this one, she could've probably easily filled the stream with gibberish. I can relate to that but I hope to see more of this idea, her English is just amazingly cute.

I never realized how much of a difference lack of dead air makes on Minecraft or ARK streams, Tenshi is really underrated as far as these streams go. I've been checking out ARK resurgence of the other_company and it's strange to hear how bored some people sound playing it remembering Kanata's excitement about everything.

I really admire her for that and I think she doesn't realize just how much it uplifts her streams.
