How come the tech behind VTubers is rarely talked about?
Ofc we all know Hololive and Nijisanji use private apps, and VTubers like Roboco and Botan have shown and talked about their setups. But at the same time, I see independents getting new face tracking technology and most of the questions of "what are you using" are being drowned out by "omg so cute!!!11!" and "queen ;)". Like how are smaller indies supposed to grow if they have no idea what bigger indies are using, especially since its probably public? I really feel that alot of smaller indies are being held back by this lack of knowledge, so why is it rarely talked about?

I'm curious. Why is webcam tracking worse than phone tracking though? You'd assume a webcam connected to a computer would have higher quality and better ability to process faces quicker.

iPhone has some software shit and a camera that's pretty much perfect at tracking faces. It's specifically iPhone, nothing else. It's basically the best consumer level facial tracking available that works with the apps people make for vtubing. I assume it's just easy to work with and doesn't require a license for the software creator.

That you'd have to look into, but most vtubers aren't using their personal phone for FaceID stuff so I'd assume not, just double check. All it does is use the camera essentially, then a PC app takes that data and uses it to morph a properly rigged face mesh. Fofamit has a pretty good basic guide on Youtube how to get something passable going.
