At the beginning of the year Coco's free chat spent months trying to figure out the logic behind the shadowbanning. Sometimes it was triggered by having specific characters like the letter i or the hiragana ta in either your name or message but the characters affected kept rotating and there seemed to be no real rhyme or reason to it. There was even a period where you could get your message to show up by putting "neko" or "peko" at the end. Youtube is a mess.

Same. I send 1-2 cheering messages per stream, maybe a couple of member emojis, a greeting and otsu-message, occasional SC, and that's it. Confused af. Experimented a bit and it's actually an IP-shadowban. Maybe because of VPN usage or a regional issue, like my country doesn't match the language I use, whatever.
Apparently it's a "feature" required to be turned on by Holo girls, and they seem to be aware of the problem.

YT support dudes are telling that they are working on it and other default bullshit, but among the useful info - it's a feature that can be turned on/off by the streamer.

Probably it's an obligatory for Holo girls as a way to fight the bots, but it's affecting a lot of members randomly. Once you're banned, you aren't visible in ANY of their stream chats.
Some users claim it's an old known issue, and eventually you get unbanned as well without any reason, notification or explanation.

Only Hololive is affected so far, and Gen 5 doesn't use this thing, no problems with their chat.
So yeah, that's YT for you. Be glad you're not affected anons, whatever's the reason. It's easy to check. Go to your oshi stream with a dead chat, write something and refresh the page. If your comment is still there, you're fine.

in the the ultimatum that i sent to omega, i noted that i'm aware it's a switch that cover can turn on or off and offered that as the basis for my numerous membership cancellations and downgrades and suspension of superchat spending. when used against members, youtube's chat software behavior is deliberately deceptive to the point of constituting fraud, and the 72 hours i gave them to fully disable it was more than enough to offer any honest party for a response.

in my opinion, people affected by the shadowban should focus on applying pressure on cover rather than on youtube. it is in fact a switch that cover can choose to disable at any time and they should do so.

I had a similar thing happen in Amelia Watson streams, not sure it’s the same issue. I had it investigated as it would also block super chats, and the support did seem to look into it seriously. In the end they weren’t able to do anything, so I ended up canceling my membership as well. It would really suck for it to happen to someone that has the person as their favorite rather than just a vtuber they enjoy.

Basically they state that it's not a on/off thing, but just a filter controlled by the holomen channels. Then it's Cover/Hololive trying to deal with chink bots using some weird heuristics like "ta" in the nickname as the guy here mentioned. Then this filter is distributed to all holomen - and voila, your ass is banned from everywhere because of reasons. Better luck contacting Cover or fill in that form from Kiara.
Or maybe just watch Niji who doesn't suck a dick so much, jesus christ

it's believed to be this setting. the filter is extremely defective and just randomly bans entire accounts across all channels that have the setting enabled.

this setting is designed to be used with live moderation, to manually allow or deny the messages after review. however, cover does not provide such live moderation, and in practice the messages from affected accounts are never reviewed. the behavior of youtube's chat software is terribly inappropriate because it does not present an error message to channel members when it's blocked by this filter, but cover is also using the setting inappropriately by failing to provide any review of held messages.

actually, youtube does accept your words and stores them indefinitely in the chat log, for display only to you while you're logged in. the filter is consulted not only when you send the message, but also when the message is retrieved in chat replay on a VOD. one can only assume the reason for this is to deceive you into continuing to pay for your channel membership's live chat perks, by creating the false appearance that your chat messages were delivered.
