I think Bae's approach is more Chinese. It is very polite to refuse an offer multiple times. Up to three times is not that uncommon. It is very strange because Chinese tend to be very blunt and rude if they get close to you. Saying stuff you can only say to friends. They show up early to your party to help you prepare stuff because it's polite.
