I feel sorry for people who have to rely on the translators in chat. By no means am I fluent, but I know enough Japanese to know that they're often translating something that was said over 30 seconds ago, and just a small fragment of it at that.

>> No.12106102

I knew someone who bitched about EOPs all day until I found out he takes everything he knows from live translators (he made a mistake and he repeated it without correcting it) then found out he's also in a fan discord looking for ppl who live tl the streams there.

Suisei doesn't hate overseas people otherwise she would've never pandered to them with Duolingo, never would've made 2 unarchived karaokes singing in English. I don't know from where the fuck the shit that she "hates" overseas people comes from, is it really just because she said to the viewers to learn Japanese instead of her learning English?

>By no means am I fluent, but I know enough Japanese to know that they're often translating something that was said over 30 seconds ago, and just a small fragment of it at that.
That doesn't require fluency to know. Some people are slow at typing. It's hard to have to both translate every word the Vtuber just said while still keeping up with what the next sentence you have to translate is as you're still doing a reread of what you just wrote for typos and doing a quick glance though that you didn't mistranslate something; and as a live translator you want to enjoy the stream too. Furthermore the people with something like a 30 second delay from you, definitely have a good 10 second of stream delay themselves compared to you. It's more like 20 seconds of lag time due to them being slow.
I mean I'm much more skilled than those live translators, I just don't want to live translate because it takes away from my stream enjoyment and I have incredibly fragile ego that gets incredibly damaged if I get rightfully called out for accidentally mistranslating one message in 500, but I can see where they're coming from and their pain.

>> No.12107049

>>12106930
I've actually never seen a live translator get called out, even when they're wrong. People seem to be 100% appreciative no matter what they say.

Eh, I guess it's similar to the word "gringo". You can use it pejoratively but also neutrally. I'm just guessing of course, this considering there's another word with a more neutral connotation (gaikokujin).

>> No.12107944

>>12107709
It's similar to foreigner, or Ausländer, or whatever. Foreigners comes across as cold, like "you're not from around these parts", and thus has obtained a connotation of being potentially offensive. Person from a different country 外国人 gaikokujin sounds more polite and correct. The severity of who think its offensive and why and context isn't a set thing, which why is Suisei can be non-xenophobic and say it, but others could take offense at it in different contexts. It's not a definitive no go word or slur or anything.

海外ニキ is a fun affectionate "overseas bros". It's net slang and basically always inherently a positive spin. Exactly like if you went "Japanese bros" in English. Also forgot to mention earlier, but the absolute most polite and formal respectful way of referring to foreigners would be 海外の方 kaigai no kata, literally people from oversseas, but yeah that's the most polite 0 ill intention could possibly detected way kinda like "ladies and gentlemen from around the world" or something.

You would use it if you were formal speak. Essentially any time 方 kata would normally come up to refer to a person. Basically as a respectful term. It would only come across as robotic if you're clearly not in a situation that requires respect. Vtubers have referred to us by 海外の方 before, you might hear when they advertise their merch or selling something or are being more formal/considerate in general of the viewer.

How do free superchats work? Do you have to have paid for one before or does everyone get them? How often can you do it? How do you know you have one available to you? The VTuber still gets money even though you didn't spend anything right?

>> No.12118553

Free paid superchats don't exist, a "free" red superchat is a joke - but if you're referring to the members getting one message in green every month, you're a member, you get one message per month. Click the place where you normally superchat and it should offer it to you. It's like subscription messages on twitch.

>> No.12123813

It depends, the member once a month superchats were added recently (like the past month or so) so some Vtubers still aren't set in philosophy about what to do with it. I've seen a few Hololive members who read some of the green member superchat's as they saw them in chat, but I can't tell from just listening to the end of "(name) arigatou gozaimasu" if what was actually sent was a normal superchat or the members one, and what they're actually thanking or ignoring. At the very least it's basically more likely to be read live than a normal chat message due to standing out and being green, but dunno about if the majority of Vtubers thank them at the end or not, it seems to be a personal decision and I haven't got a grasp on how enough different Vtubers handle thanking it to tell you if people tend to thank and read them or not.
