It's not that much in terms of stream numbers, but official promotions. When you look at brand collabs and general sponsored content, you'll almost always see either Fubuki or Marine, or both. Others also participate, but these two are mainstays.
Pekora has the numbers, but not as much the social skills to do that kind of stuff. Fubuki goes on live TV and does a great job of representing the brand, Pekora chokes trying to say a i u e o in front of a bunch of people.
Marine has both the numbers and the skills, it's no wonder Cover wants to push her as hard as possible.

Depends on how much you invest into it, but I'd say in a few months you're already following gaming streams without much difficulty, the context on screen helps a lot. It's not like you'll be able to translate everything she's saying, but you'll get what she's talking about, and you'll feel yourself improving as time goes on.
The most important part is getting the basics out of the way, so that even trying to watch streams will already be a learning experience. But there's no way around the basics, you have to do boring reps to leave the "I recognize some of the words" anime watcher level.

Yeah, if you're ESL you're very familiar with the process, it's not so different. Properly expressing your thoughts and holding conversations in that language will take quite a while, but following what other people are saying, playing games and stuff like that will come much more quickly. I definitely see where you're coming from, but I see it kind of differently. It's not like the studio work is for private purposes, she's stunting the growth of her own brand to work on content to be enjoyed by the people who are already her fans. Of course, this is highly subjective and depends on the kind of content you enjoy the most, but personally Fan Fun Island is something I'm looking forward to a lot more than any stream. And in their case it definitely paid off, both of them have great sololives full of originals to show for it, while nobody who was part of Bloom was able to do the same, even though Bloom was a blast. Marine chose Bloom back then, and is choosing its equivalent again now. Do I think Suisei made a mistake working on Still Still Stellar instead of being a part of Bloom? Hell no, her album is fantastic, so I'm not denying you may be right in what the best choice would be, but I get both choices, and neither is made without thinking of how it'll benefit their fans.

I'm kind of glad the people behind these decisions are a bit retarded. They'll see 20k people watching the promotion live and think it was a great success, but I'm just enduring through something painfully boring for my oshi, there's no way I'll look any deeper into it.
Square-Enix does promotions a lot better, they just get the holos they pick to play a demo and show a highlight reel in their channels. They understand that while the holo will bring a lot of eyes to the product, the product itself still has to look appealing. Or feature Holos in it, I guess, I will buy games just because of that, no problem.
Or you can choose Nene, since she will always go the extra mile and continue to promote that product on twitter long after the promotion is done, she is always really thankful for these opportunities.
