It's easy to lose your save if you have multiple accounts you swap between (such as a personal account and a vtuber account) on the same PC. Steam cloud fucks up if you try to swap account then try to play. I'm a dev and it happens all the time to our players. I'm not saying this is what happened, but if she swapped to her roommate account and tried to play both Hades and Hollow Knight offstream it could result in this.

I once lost my 100+ hours Baldur's Gate save file even though steam cloud was on, so I guess it can glitch out sometimes. Losing both Hades and Hollow Knight save files sounds unlikely though, but I don't see why she would lie. Basically she'll need to explain how this happened precisely, as it going on two times in one week is not high odds. If it's more like a bunch of her saves got messed up all at once moving comps and somehow her saves don't just come off the cloud (or weren't there and were all local) maybe that's it. In which case, can't she just plug in her old hard drive in her new comp and move the account files for that game over? Should do it.
