By the way, whatever happened to Shotgun Rose, that three-woman podcast she was a part of? They put out an EP... I never heard the studio versions of those songs, I would love to, but they sang them during their live concert, and I watched when they diced up the show and played it during the podcast's hiatus. Well, she did tweet out something interesting as her roommate who's streaming now, about how she's not a vtuber even if she's using an avatar, but a real person. That sort of hints that the AZKi character isn't as much 'her behind a Live2D' like most Holos, but something slightly more contrived, which is in line with her very unique circumstances of being scouted to be the voice of the AZKi project even before it was under Cover, which is also why she works so closely with the frog since it's a joint project between them. If we assume that's true, she doesn't have the same amount of freedom to just do things as AZKi, but instead has to handle even more levels of red tape then normal, and might not even be allowed to do things that could go against the branding of the AZKi persona.

For example, she released multiple sets of beautiful songs as her roommate that she wrote, and I love them, but there's no real reason they couldn't have been put out as AZKi if she was in a situation like Suisei or Mori, and they'd see a much bigger audience. However, if they're not in line with the image that the frog has for AZKi, they might have agreed not do so. She's also mentioned how she didn't realize she was allowed to ask for things until recently, so that could imply that she's largely been doing the content the frog laid out for her. In the end, we'll never know exactly why she does it as she does, but I'm happy with it either way.

I wonder what would happen if AZKi tried a bit harder to tap into Hololive's gamer audience to increase exposure to her music, such as through more frequent (but not necessarily regular) Minecraft collabs. I would also like to see her release one or two "gateway" songs that are a little generic with more mainstream appeal to serve as "start here" recommendations to new listeners. For example, I think that New Frontier showcases her abilities without going too deep into any niche genres, and is my current go-to for someone looking for a glimpse into her music.

Also, it seems strange that AZKi remains overlooked by many Hololive fans (if using her sub count and video views as a metric of reach), with her numbers more closely reflecting the VSinger audience instead of the gamer/mixed audience that her association with Hololive should be granting her. I'm curious as to what would happen if AZKi were permitted (and willing) to sporadically follow a similar content release structure to IRyS, with an increase in casual streams providing more opportunities for AZKi to develop a stronger presence as an independent personality instead of seeming like a side character.

I feel like she has the gateway songs in the Creating World, A to Z, and in this world trilogy, as well as Without U, Error, and my personal favorite in Sayonara Hero, as well as a few others. They're generic, if well executed, jpop, as well as people loving Inochi when I introduce them to it as well. The trilogy is even set up as that introduction point, telling the basic story of AZKi and her growth as an artist and person.

The problem is that she has the catch 22 of not making enough money from being AZKi that she can drop her day job, even if she wants to, which means that she doesn't have the time to devote to streaming that would help her incline enough to make the money to drop her day job. Add on how she seems content to spend a big budget on making more music or related content, as shown by the big MVs they did for Felicia and Real Melancholy which aren't even her most popular songs, and she's just in a very strange position.

I don't disagree with what you said regarding gateway songs, but I still feel like a lot of those introductory songs are missing the casual/mainstream energy that songs like Red Heart, Mogu Mogu Yummy, Ahoy, etc have. This could be entirely personal preference, but the energetic/catchy/upbeat/explosive anime-OP-esque vibes of the aforementioned songs makes them palatable to people who might not otherwise be receptive to chuuba music. Again, this could be my casual taste, but when I first listened to AZKi I only listened to FFF, Kotonoha, and shit days. I feel like most of them would work quite well if they got attention in the modern Hololive environment with something like Fake.Fake.Fake being very anime OP-esque to me, which is why I was disappointed that she chose the two songs she did to receive updated MVs. However, my personal hope and cope is that she is literally just going in order, since they were songs 2 and 3 with Creating World already receiving an update, so maybe we'll see more in the future. There's also the new EP that's been announced and the likely album at the end of the year, if trends hold, so maybe she'll find her NCP/Ghost level hit.

I do think the biggest thing is that she might not really want to be a streamer. She wants to be a musician, and while she certainly enjoys having an audience for her singing, I only really see her ever wanting to stream at Suisei levels at most, since she'd rather spend her time working on music. You can see how she tries to come to streams with a agenda, sometimes quite literally putting it on the screen and moving the pointer when she goes to the next topic, instead of being able to freely just chat. That organization and autism doesn't really lend itself to being a longform streamer, and while she might not like her dayjob, who knows if she would actually be happier streaming instead. I think we'll see her get back to streaming as she was doing at the start of the year now that M3 has passed, with one or two a week, which is probably a good number for her. If she really wanted to incline, I think moreso then streaming more would be to do like Watame and Hachi have done with a weekly singing stream slot, even if it's not crazy polished like she tries to be if you remember the member's song learning stream. I don't think she's comfortable being anything less then flawless as AZKi, though I hope I'm wrong and she's just in the process of discovering that singing spontaneously is happily accepted by the fans if she's having fun with it.

Don't assume the MVs are a coherent lore anything more complex then what's being presented in each video. They're largely all self contained stories, some of which are easy to understand like Without U and some aren't. The only exception might be the trio of songs in Creating World, A to Z, and in this world. It helps if you read the lyrics along with the song to understand the themes being presented. DeepL does a pretty good job of giving you the gist, even if you'll lose some of the word play, as long as you keep in mind that who's doing what is rarely specified in Japanese so it's much more ambiguous who's doing the action. https://note.com/azkinote/

No, she was just a representation of AZKi when she's feeling angsty or upset, which is why a lot of the Black songs are about how she's angry with how things are or doesn't deserve to be happy.

Not really, they're just different facets of her. While originally they were designed to break up things by musical style between White and Black, the aggressive rock and the ballads respectively, that gimmick largely went away with the 2nd costume. White songs still are sad and whistful like Inochi and Starry Regrets, but they're much more upbeat in mood then the 'fuck this world' that AZKi Black has at times.

If you read the lyrics, it's a song about not being afraid to risk everything and keep fighting even if you don't know how things will work out, so you could make the argument that she's trying to save herself.

This one is easy. Remember that she originally was on a timed contract and slated to graduate next summer. The goddess is time, who's slipping away from her as she tries to leave everything that she can for her fans before she disappears.

This ties into the previous concept, where it's all the memories and content from her that she's leaving behind, and how she's curious as to how her fans will remember her various moments, and how she hopes they'll still be beautiful even after they've come to an end, hence the flowers growing on them as the goddess stops moving.

I don't think so. I think it was more intended as a celebration of everything she's accomplished and how far she's come, which is why it's highlighting all of her songs and concerts. I guess you could make an argument for it trying to be a unification of Black and White into just AZKi, since she no longer makes those distinctions between those two, but I feel like that's not really represented by the video.

She does seem to enjoy messing about a bit during joint lives when doing the little dances and poses with the other singer between songs. Since I don't do my JP reps, I end up using Youtube's auto-translate on interviews and stuff so I end up missing things like the S and M with Sora, and there's gotta be a whole lot of other interesting details in the frog talks and her appearances on other channels.

The original plan for the poll, assuming that it actually got any responses, was to potentially assist newer listeners in finding widely loved AZKi songs that they themselves are most likely to enjoy. As such, and given that I was short on time earlier, I opted to omit things such as Poppin Kiss, the VirtuaREAL mixes, Shotgun Rose, covers on AZKi's channel, and collabs like Mrs Pumpkin on other channels since an exhaustive list would require more time to compile. To ensure that I covered the basics, I checked the first google result for "azki discography", https://virtualyoutuber.fandom.com/wiki/AZKi/Discography , and referred only to the blocks of songs that specified AZKi "as lead" since this seemed to include the core of AZKi's music.
