Persona is very different than SMT. SMT lacks many of the things Persona fans like about that series: social links, visual bynovel amounts of dialogue, being a high school simulator, flashy character-specific personas, simplified combat with dramatic animations, and a whole host of spinoffs to turn each game into its own universe.
Just because she's a Personafag doesn't mean she'd be a good pick for SMT V, and I think Kiara was definitely the right choice here because she's a JRPG fan in general.
