Most vtubers posted here are around 10 to <50 average viewers. 50 and upwards for regulars is slowly making it. 100+ regulars is good. Approaching 200 is great. Beyond that is big for an indie, especially the 500 range. I don't link 1k and upwards since if you wanted to watch those you probably already are, and they most likely have threads of their own.

Youtube viewer bug/feature kinda fucks things up a bit, so this is going more along twitch standards.

1) No, I decided against such a thing.
2) Why not? There's that one cool granny Youtuber that reviews super weeb JRPGs and stuff like that, so I feel a VTuber version of that could also work. Goslinging depends on the person.
3) People watching less anime is more a result of the inability to manage chuuba time with othre recreation time, which is a personal issue. Watchalongs may also abate this. I think VTubers will replace many forms of socialisation and "friendship dating", not anime.
4) Both are fine but have different attributes.
5) It hurts a little that many independent VTubers are simply doing it for fun rather than taking it a little more seriously as a sort of career, especially if they're bigger than small indies that really wanna make it.

I like youtube more because it's better for mobile viewing and for rewinding when I miss something. I use both and I don't think it's that big of a deal. People just enjoy engaging in tribalism.

I am vaguely sure something like that has existed before. Not just grandma avatars, but those gamer grandma type channels. I don't gosling, but I imagine someone might.

The question is weird. I've seen enough people claim they've stopped watching anime or playing games to watch vtubers, most likely because it eats up those recreational hours you'd usually spend on those hobbies and there's only so many hours in a day. But functionally, not really.

I am honestly fed up with youtube's bullshit, but twitch isn't the ideal alternative either. It's like youtube is hostile to content creators, but with the adblock arms race and the way it handles VODs, twitch is hostile to viewers. Not terribly fond of twitch culture either, but the raiding feature is a boon for networking and such. If I were to stream I'd pick twitch right now.

5) I feel you. I'm a bit of a tryhard myself. But not everyone has the talent to make it big anyway, some people might get bored after a few months, and others have the talent and enjoy it but are also curse with being very talented in other areas so it isn't worth to them to try too hard to incline.
It is frustrating to support someone who is clearly just fucking around but it also feels a bit like those parents putting their kids through little leagues to have them accomplish their frustrated dreams of being baseball players. Ultimately you can't impose your views on others, but maybe if you try your best, you can inspire your girls to try a bit harder too!

We talk about hags being hot around here, but an actual non-meme 50+ hag would have pretty limited appeal, I think. I'm not saying they couldn't be entertaining, but entertainment is only part of why people watch them. Botan-tier is where I draw the line for gosling.

I don't think they'll replace it, they're different experiences. Though vtubers are soaking up a lot of people's attention right now, it'll level out over time as people burn out. The last anime I watched was a few episodes of The Promised Neverland a couple days ago, while hanging out with my brother.

Since joining Twitch to watch my oshi, I've discovered it's not bad and is honestly the superior streaming service, especially from the streamer's pov. I think Vtubing is actually a (potentially) respectable entertainment profession, or at least no less respectable than all the others. Differences in core audience aside, at the end of the day they're fulfilling a real need people have, and it's mostly the talented and/or hardworking who will succeed. The fad may fade and reappear, but vtubers will stick around forever from this point on in some form or another.

3. Yes. Vtubers are significantly less expensive to make and create much more money in a shorter time.
