How is she so good at singing in Japanese when she's an EOP?

She spends a lot of time copying by ear, I guess. But she still make mistakes here and there, either saying the wrong syllable in a word or intonating weirdly. It happens if you don't understand what you're singing.

>> No.13686143

>>13685193
Because she's just mimicking sounds. You don't need to speak the language in order to impersonate the sounds it makes. The only impressive thing that comes from this is that she has to memorize all the lyrics to a song that she has no idea what's being said.

Also never trust Japanese when they say your Japanese is jouzu. They always mean it's jouzu for a bakagaijin.

>> No.13686262

>>13685193
Japanese is super easy to copy phonetically. Everything sounds like it looks like it should sound. Spanish is like that too. English by comparison is a fucking minefield if you don't actually speak the language you don't know what the fuck any given word should actually sound like, not to mention the multitude of words that are spelled exactly the same and sound different and have different meanings.

To a certain extent, yes. Until you realize that every Japanese word has its own intonation (different in every Japanese dialect) and that Japanese people can easily say if you're intonating correctly or not.

Most gaijin can't pronounce the Japanese R and the "ng" in manga correctly though. And these are just the most obvious examples.

I mean can Gura? It sounds good to us but how's it sound to a Jap? I imagine it's a slightly better version of what we hear when Moona is singing in English. Good at carrying the tune and hitting the notes but questionable pronunciation.

Pretty much this, it take time and skill but nothing as close as you would imagine it take to learn the actual language. This is why she can sing Korean songs as well, it's all memorization. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aN53Wu9CD4
One of these days I expect her to pull a Spanish or French song out her ass in future karaoke.

Yeah, but you normally don't hear anyone claiming that a foreigner is better than or as good as a native speaker. You hear that all the time from Japanese viewers.

She has extremely good pronunciation for an EOP. If she understood what she was singing, it could be almost perfect.

I think this works well going from english to japanese, but it's not universal. Try to roll your Rs by listening to other people do it. You can't. Just like how japanese people can't make R sounds by listening to english people make the sound.

effort. xenoglossia is simpler when you're only repeating words off a page, than when you're trying to communicate with someone else.
>>13686841
and moreover, the one upshot of coming from english to another language in terms of pronunciation is that you're working from the idea that there's more than one way to sound out what you're looking at, because english just loves to have a crapload of contextual sounds for every letter to compensate for it's tendency to pick up loanwords like a meth addict stealing loose change out of people's pockets - japanese in particular comes with the idea that each syllable has only one way to be pronounced, give or take some dropped "U"s, which both simplifies that aspect from an outside perspective, and makes less rigid systems considerably harder from an inside perspective.

>> No.13746576

>>13746489
elaborating on the "effort" part, it's one of those things where actually trying makes a huge difference, even if it's a simpler task you've set out.
she wants to have it not sound like a complete and total disaster when she's imitating japanese songs, and so she's trying to make it sound alright.

>> No.13747255

Or… she just practices a lot because she likes singing
