I've never been able to get into vtubers. I want to, I really do. I want to be like you guys and use them to escape and pretend they're my gf and shit. I just can't get over the fact that they don't actually give a shit about me, or any of you for that matter, they really just care about the money and dopamine those clicks provide. I can never bring myself to watch streams for more than 20 minutes without getting depressed. I try to pretend that they're playing games with me etc. but i just cant cope with the fact that they're playing games for thousands of people and don't care about me or any of the people watching

If I'm being totally honest, I like watching them for the following reasons:

-parasocial relationship, I get a high from listening to people be friends, which is like any other podcast I listen to.
-Cute voices, cute avatars, a lot nicer to look at than regular people
-the drama, kind of ashamed to admit it but I like when something yabai happens, it keeps things interesting. I don't want people to lose their gig so I only like the minor ones that lead to good memes and discussion

Do I wish I could have a relationship with a vtuber I like? Absolutely, but it's the same way I wish I could get with a celebrity or singer. Vtubers are even more appealing though because they seem more attainable, but I'm not delusional enough to think it's not partially an act. Actually I really feel sorry for them because their girl-next-door weebiness and opening up to their audience attracts the worst kinds of creeps that can't separate them presenting as an anime girl and entertaining from the real person who they have no idea what they're really like.
