Not that anon but I think it's all about mentality. If you go into it like it's an artistic cross to bear, it's going to be terrible and you'll likely fail. If you treat it as a matter of just stringing words together, with the content as an external factor to the process, you'll be much more likely to do well.

I'm gonna blogpost a bit because I do think it applies to the thread (and to any writing thread):

When I was 18, I wrote a 100k word Touhou fic. Because at that time I was a dumb kid convinced anything I wrote was a fundamental expression of my being, the whole process was terrible on me, took me forever, it was exhausting and riddled with doubt because every single word was up for question. It took me over a YEAR to reach that word count and I still ended up abandoning the fic.

Then when I was 23, I tried my hand at writing a TTRPG book. It wasn't anything important, I really didn't particularly care who read it, it didn't matter to me much at all - it was just a hobby project, my take on a particular engine concept that I liked a lot but that I thought hadn't been done justice. I had a blast writing that game (mechanically it was ass though), and had a 50k word draft done in two weeks, lore and all.

Then, at 25, I tried writing a fantasy novel, and went back to my teenage mentality. THIS was going to be my breakout - and if it wasn't, at the very least it was going to be my philosophical, aesthetic, and romantic manifesto, something my whole life had led up to! Predictably, the whole process was god-awful, with every single word or turn of phrase being a value judgment not just on my ability as a writer but as a person. It took me some 8 months to reach a 150k word draft, and the novel was fucking terrible. That shit broke me and I didn't write again for years.

Now, at 29, soon 30, I'm writing unhinged fanfic about chuubas getting into chuuni fights and NSFW scenes, and I'm having a blast. The words flow like water, one after the other - I do, fundamentally, still want to make something good, that anons will enjoy, but in the end what matters to me now is first that I'm having fun, and second that I got whatever plot bunny I had out of my head and onto paper. I'm making content for its own sake, without an ulterior motive, and that in turn means the content comes out much faster because I'm not constantly questioning it and judging it.

At first, those fanfictions were something amusing to read. Par for the course, considering that it happens to basically anyone with enough online presence. But it soon became more and more depraved, so she dispatched a squad to "clean up" this stain on her online presence. And that should've been a simple task, and no more horny degenerate stories would plague her eyes as she scoured the internet for more fanfiction.

But it turned out in a way she would've never expected. The whole squad was wiped, and it was reported that the target had used the grenades that the squad themselves brought to kill them and make his escape. Whether it was a stroke of luck or something else, he had escaped with his life and her honour still stained. So she sent more squads, more killers, but they all failed, their bodies littering the alleyways of the small towns that the target would escape to. And to make things worse, he kept writing and posting depraved fanfiction about her, regaling and exaggerating how much she desired him. Now it was personal.

Pavolia Reine stood in front of the door of a room where she would find the target, taking in slow, methodical breaths to control her heartbeat. She'll get rid of this bastard once and for all. With a click of a button on her detonator, small breach charges go off on the locks of the door before she storms in, weapon at the ready. A green laser pointer shines through the smoke and dust, before she turns on the flashlight attached to her gun.

"C'mon and show yourself, you bastard! I know you're here!" She growls out, her sapphire blue eyes scanning the room for any sign of life. Out of the corner of her eye, a flash of white streaks past her, and before she could even react, the barrel of her main gun had already been sliced in half, the muzzle clattering to the floor. Cursing, she drops the gun and pulls out both her sidearm and keris, holding them in a cross pattern close to her chest.

"You're certainly brave to come yourself after all those grunts you sent," a voice calls out to her. It had a robotic tune to it, as if it was spoken through an electronic filter. Reine turns to the source of the voice and finally sees her target, you.

"All I did was write stories about how much I loved you, Reine. You didn't have to send so many people to kill me, yet you did. But you had made a mistake by doing so, and by me surviving. You've enemies, Reine, lots of them. They took me in, healed me, gave me this cyborg body so that one day, I would enact revenge upon you." You say, flexing your carbon nanotube muscles. They hiss and whine as you go into a stance, your own sword humming with energy, eager to draw blood.

Reine just squints, pointing her weapons at you. She doesn't show any fear in her eyes, only a sense of being mildly impressed at how far you've come.

"I'm not like those dolled up princesses, I rule over my empire with an iron claw, and I could break you in half even with your shiny metal body," she says, her tone calm yet you could sense that she was getting excited at the prospect of a legendary battle.

You grip the hilt of your blade tightly, the mechanical gears in your body whirring in response to your heartrate increasing. Now was the time for battle, for bloodshed, for revenge.

"Let's dance!"
