Ukraine has a Neonazi problem they tortured and killed Polish women and kids in East Galacia and Volyhnia since all the men were dying trying to fight off the soviets and nazis. Vei, nyanners, Hime(grandma last name) Mel(unconfirmed based on some claims) have a polish background so this is sort of similar to Armenia wanting to support Turkey. Trying to keep this as short as possible Russian civilians were getting shelled and killed at Donbass and Ukrainian troops would go kill ethnic Russian civilians, the west ignored Russia in which they decided to take action and we all know the rest to keep it brief, also joining NATO would mean moving nuclear weapons closer to their country which they repeatedly spoke to NATO about.

Currently I have no trust in this fundraiser because any male 18-60 can't leave the country (news of Ukrainians beating up blacks and indian students) meaning they will get armed and caused more deaths than having to surrender and cause less deaths for both let's face it the russians will win anyways).
