The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

hey anons, i want to seek out a little bit of advice.
i've been testing the waters since last month and managed to garner a decent viewership on twitch, and got over half a thousand following on twitter.
i mostly got my numbers primarily by networking myself into collabs, though i've only been using a premade model. the art quality is good and the rig is good and i don't really see other people using it, though part of me feels like i should be trying to get a better model to not let anyone down.
at most i only have the finances for rigging, i was thinking of learning l2d myself but it looks really overwhelming and complicated. i can draw my own l2d but i'm also not very confident in my art style (since it looks very sketchy/doodle-like) either. i've been looking for cheap options on twitter for a l2d and a rigger and it seems like the cheapest it can go is about ~$300. i'm thinking of taking emote commissions for about $5-$10 each all the way to june, and get a l2d+rig commission done so i can get my 2.0 out around my birthday and ditch my premade model.
should i keep my current decent-quality premade model, anons, or should i get a better personalized one?
as a side-note, i should mention that i've also browsed booth for good quality 3d models, but most of the models there were cute girls; i play a shota with cat ears so it's hard to find something that's fitting, since usually those models are dressed in cute frilly dress designs.

How about you do what ironmouse did and commission the artist of your premade avatar to do a custom one? Chances are you will only be able to afford the art, but rigging is something that can be very cheap for a good quality, with art that's rare. Or, if you're sure there's no other chuba using that model, you could approach the author to buy the rights to the character/model (ask them about sales first to not have a twin pop out later). If those options aren't for you I'd suggest to invest in the art instead of art+rigging, also maybe in your case it is best to wait till you're bigger, don't be in such a rush. It's okay to use your prenade model for awhile longer

Post examples? You wouldn't believe how many people will pay upwards of 20 for even shitty emotes. I've found artists charging 10 who should be charging 30 and some charging 30 who should be charging 10. Emote price is all over the place and it's easy to make a quick buck from it.

Check out adam regusea on youtube. He makes videos about home cooking with a reasonable budget and no fancy chef skills. He explains why the things he does work so you can confidently make your own decisions and get better at cooking.

No, a majority of growth doesn't come from your livestream just existing. Unless you've just got a massive stream of money to pay a social media manager, editor/clippers, etc then streaming daily takes away time that could be better put into learning other skills to help your growth, networking, etc.

I want to add avoid notification spamming though, but that isn't a priority just something to keep in mind. It's basically F in chat if someone turns off their notifications. There's also merit in not streaming so often so people look forward to seeing you when you do show up, but that really depends on your following and is kinda pointless. You can get your viewers emotionally dependent on you pretty easily with daily streaming though.

I'm probably going to change it to vtubers sing with instrument covers too. The main problem has been singing in JP, the few that are autistic enough to learn japanese tend to not have the self confidence to sing. Tho I'm still working on it, it'll be a few months. Basically the idea is that you do about 3 streams a week with each stream being at least 3-4 hours long because that's how long it takes for discoverability to kick in as well you reaching peak viewers on average. This is the minimum amount you need to do as a hobby in order to grow as a streamer. The time off that should be spent working on content that will actually help you grow like clips and social media stuff. Most of your growth should happen when you're not streaming, that's the optimal way of doing things.

Alright, my commission is done, the character now is fully designed with all thats said and done here are the stats:

Total time: about 2 months (due to artists full schedule and them not taking commissions / not making specific room for it in their schedule)
Total price: 900€
The package: They helped design the character, went through many iterations of the design with me back and forth, i got the full .psd (about 100 layers with perfect masking and seperated parts) that i can edit to hearts content. Also a very reasonable and experienced artist that help me through the stages.

Overall i'm rather happy with it. It's been my first real art commission i usually don't do anything like this, so it was a learning experience too. Now that i have an actual design future commissions would be a lot cheaper to do. This was a sort of passion character for me so i didn't mind paying the premium to have someone who's open to making multiple edits and put up with my stuff. He even read some /asp/ies' feedback and was cool about it.

I'm very scared transitioning this into 3D, the friend whos doing the modeling is good, but i think this may be out of his skill range. I'll have to consult him and ask.

And now for the important question: He did say he wants to post the commission on his social medias, i don't really mind, i wonder if i gain anything from hiding the character for a debut thinger or if i just should take the extra clout right now. In any case thanks to everyone who helped out in the process, i've gotten some neat suggestions here.

I plan to stay "Kaiser" because it's a more recognizable name and there's a reason why the character name is a different one, but i do want to do a namechange some day because "truekaiser" kinda messes with people, it's more of a fallback name when "kaiser" is already taken but i should probably do something like kaiser_ or kaiser_ch or whatever fancy naming scheme people use these days to make it snappier and easier to remember my name.

I like names that have a nice ring to them even if there's no meaning. Food names are always nice like if you run into someone with a food name on a game, you know there's gonna be a bit of a wafflezXD vibe. I went through ToastyToast, Burnttoast, Splitfire84, and some other shittier names before I settled on SwissedToast in 2007. Just proper capitalization, no numbers, and something that is aesthetically appealing I guess is my 2 cents on it. People always remember me by SwissedToast or my community OvenFresh or just for being orange and black.

SakuraHanabi is a nice name though. Carenza, Kawapie, Megumin. People are also gonna be calling you nicknames guaranteed so if you like "Kai" all is well.

It's gonna be a problem if people can't find you on google though. Ive built up an internet trail over the years and it really works a lot in my favor except for that one rrat kiwifarms dug up and made unscrubbable. Even that I simply embraced.
