The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

Do your Twatter memes, talk to people and be your own PR person. Finally, before you worry about "making it" first think about it: what is it in the first place? What is it FOR YOU? You may discover you're not made for the numbers race and instead are happy with a small but loyal fanbase, so don't run and burn yourselves out before you discover what you really want to do.
Save your debut for something really big and special, like a new model or goal.

So, while a mic will mask your voice to some extent it can be found it fairly easily. However it’s not a situation where it’s the sound of your voice that will give it away. The easiest way to not get found out is to go the Clark Kent just wears glasses route. Changing up your speaking style, vernacular, and cadence a bit is what actually will disguise your voice.

I am of the opinion you should stream whatever makes you able to perform the best as a streamer which is most likely the stuff one enjoys the most. I'll be outlining my experiences with it, but take it with a grain of salt because my anecdotal evidence has no value due to being a 2view.

I finished FF8 recently on stream it took me about 35 hours on stream to beat, i skipped the optional content because it requires some grinding out and probably takes like 3-5 hours on top and i know a lot of JRPGs are a lot worse than this. Compared to other JRPGs FF is one of the better game series of the genre to stream because they are less boring. I eyeballed the Trails series, but i'm afraid it's gonna be much worse to watch. (I have never played it before)

Here's what i roughly did in those 35 hours of streaming:

- 5-10 hours of amateur voice acting. JRPGs without voiced dialogue get my VA treatment, because that allows people to not pay attention and not having to read the dialogue themselves. It also mean i don't have to worry about clicking away any text that someone might want to read. You can consider this dead air though.
- 10 hours of gameplay. running around, doing dungeons combat etc. I usually talk little here just doing play-by-play
- 5 hours of gushing over pre-rendered backgrounds (i'm sorry they are just too good)
- 5 hours of talking over the story as a whole, especially talking about Squalls emotional "trauma" which he managed to overcome and highlighting the high-points of the game's story telling, while also criticizing what the game does wrong at any given point.
- everything else is dead air (5-10 hours)

Someone who was actually a good streamer could do a better job than me, but i believe if you approach a JRPG like a normal game and just let it run in the background you give up everything. Also voiced dialogue makes it really hard to shine as a streamer as the game takes away your spotlight for a long time, which is why i prefer older games which have only little or no voiced dialogue. I'm by no means a good example because i literally get nobody watching, but this is sort of an "objective" approach on how to deal with JRPG's. If you had a nice voice or were a good voice actor, you could definitely make the VA portion a highlight of the stream.

A couple problems with this format:
- people who don't care about story and want to just have the streamer funny reaction content probably wont watch
- people who tuned in late and care about the story can't watch because they missed half of it (previous streams)
- people who already know the story probably don't care either
- jrpgs in general while popular as games, a lot of people don't want to watch someone else play them.
- most of them are super long and sometimes super grindy on-top which drags down the experience.

In general the structure of those streams are probably a bit different, and maybe the reason people come to your stream doesn't fit with streaming those types of games. If you are fine with dropping viewers though in favor of playing something you want though, i think the usual people will still be back once you are done with it, so it's probably fine.

Xenoblade is not a good example though. EVERY streamer that played Xenoblade got huge drops in viewers. It's just incredibly boring to watch. Kiara plays JRPG a lot and her viewers never drop that low (she actually gets more than she got on Zelda Wind Waker). Sure, JRPGs are niche content but if you're a very small streamer that barely gets any new viewers, JRPGs are not a debuff. In fact, most of the fans are very dedicated and loyal so you'll probably end up having more fans than streaming boring league.

They're just mostly failed streamers that are trying something new. Now they're mostly failed vtubers that are textbook examples of sunk costs. Danny Choo made it big with blogging not because he was special but because he had early knowledge of using Google and adsense. Other bloggers tried to make it work too, we had a whole wave of """press""" that begged for press passes to events before policies changed like what happened to e3. Web comics was another trend, a few got big, others died down. Things started to change with Youtube and then Twitch, more people could generate a stable income out of it but most were always at the hobby level and still are.

There are also lots of people we don't remember that were too early or even just at the perfect time who quit and vanished from history like they never existed. Many wont have much success regardless of when they start and then suddenly someone rides a wave of success seemingly out of nowhere. There is never a good time to start but if you don't start you wont know what could have been.

Let me preface this by saying I don't think people should ignore opsec, they can do what they want to achieve the levels of privacy they desire, but why are people so obsessed with it?

There's tens of thousands of IRL streamers out there who have no issue talking about their college, places thet go, their home town, etc and everything is absolutely fine for them. Streamers do have problems and it does bother them. Actually sometimes it's very distracting they go on rants regularly or always interact with the same troll group daily. The potential for actual stalkers is very high too or people that try and get you fire or interfere with your real life.
