Gura. No hate, I don't really watch her, but she's alright, decent streamer.
Still, her design is probably the best for a couple reasons.
Cute small girl design, not sexualized though and doesn't turn normal people away. Color scheme isn't all over the place and appealing, blues being soft. Shark is unique enough (not overused like cats or whatever else) and well liked among lots of people. I think a big thing people overlook though is just that, her overall design, specifically her clothes, aren't super complicated, pretty simple without being a detriment. Any artist can redraw it without spending too much time on it compared to a ton of the other talents. Also when everything gets super complicated, they all kind of mesh together, whereas her design stands out more just being "shark hoodie" in a mascot sort of way. Like Mario I guess, the design is simple, but the outline stands out enough to become iconic.
Combination of that, and being a decent streamer led to her absurd rise (past life likely played a role too).

Nah I can't really agree with that. I like her content, but that model looks like it was drawn as a challenge to use as many colors as possible. Some of them aren't even logical; like her wing colors being inconsistent. Hair ribbons and arm ribbons aren't the same purple either. You have soft, muted, colors with over-saturated garish ones on top of them, and it clashes badly in my opinion. In fact, the bag and arm ribbons look like someone photoshopped them on later, and have a quality I can only describe as "fan-coloring". She makes it work, but that's because of her and not the model being a buff.
Vox is an example of someone buffed by his model. His voice is great, but his personality is kinda whatever. His model is incredible though, and easily half the reason he's able to attract the fujos. He wouldn't be doing nearly as well with say, Bonbon's model.

As a drawfag, drawing Gura is a literal relief. It's so easy. No four layer gradient overlapping hair, no hyper detailed patterns on ruffles and fabric, no straps and random crap overlapping everything making shading a chore. It's identifiable and super, super easy to draw and shade. I know illustrators like to go crazy and show off and I'm not even saying that's a bad thing to do. But give them a casual alt that's easy to draw. See also: Kiara's original outfit vs her summer casual, which was a godsend for people trying to draw her. And then there's Irys....

So I was curious because I really like a lot of Redjuice's stuff and Irys' just doesn't work. If you look at his illustrations he does a lot of subtle cheating with the eyes and especially the nose. Like he will draw hair across the nose so you don't realize the tip and bridge don’t' line up at all. He does fairly aggressive shading around the eyes which looks great from a specific angle. But trying to basically animate this as her head moves around would be hell. So she ends up with this weird amorphous nose, eyes that look a little uncanny from most angles, a maybe little too defined mouth/lips that don't move like you expect. I don't think it can be solved by rigging, they need to start over with new layers.
