it's because the US unironically has one of the worsts mental health climates of the developed world, and while japan and korea might be worse their mental health issues tend to make workaholics. us brand depression is a lot less stress induced and more ennui and anhedonia. that makes streaming as an occupation particularly hazardous for that set of issues. this isn't me making excuses for them, i'm just describing what's probably happening.
so, yeah you can't really call it anything but laziness, but it's of an endemic kind

I'm just guessing here, but I think it's because they're nervous about fucking something up and getting fired. HoloEn is even too scared to do banter, and even when they do banter, they follow it up with "hahaha just kidding!" as if they think that their manager is gonna give them a stern talking to and risk losing their jobs.
