There is literally nothing they typically do that indies don't except the occasional 3D mocap skit or concert, and I guess the music singles. But 99% of their content is literally no different from what indies do. My debut was back in November, I just do this part time for fun for now, but seeing how much I've been making and the people I've been meeting definitely makes me want to try harder. I know of a non-vtuber content creator on youtube that spent EIGHT YEARS with the same small fan-base of ~20-40 live viewers and his videos got at most ~10,000 views after a month. One piece of new content in eight years got him to six digit views, and only on that new content. It got picked up by the algo, peaked around 1/2 million views, now averages ~130k on that content.

I think there's just people who don't have "it". I go to the store just to organize the shelves.
Always the grocery store, they are way more fun and in my opinion more "strictly" laid out so it's easier to work in groups if that's what you want to do. it's just fun and i suppose i'm doing people a tiny little service by doing it and that's cool too. this is literally what i do instead of play video games

my favorite aisle is breakfast, the whole thing with the hot and breakfast cereals and the poptarts and oatmeal. it's the most colorful aisle and it's easy and fun to stack and look at things. second favorite is either the other boxed good heavy aisle where they keep the hamburger helper and stuff or the sauces section with ketchup bbq etc. juice aisle is colorful but usually doesn't need much reorganization and most of the items are really heavy

i don't think any of the employees have noticed i do it semi-regularly, but i do get thanked often when they notice me moving things.

I know this comes off as really harsh, but I'm a chuuba with a lot of friends who I honestly think are wasting their time and emotional energy wondering why they can't succeed and I guess I'm just writing this in hopes that they or other similar people can see it.

If you're really just doing this for fun or as a hobby, it doesn't apply to you but I think a lot of people pick up vtubing after seeing those around them succeed and then have to watch as their more successful friends blow up around them. I've seen it happen, I've HAD it happened but I 100%I do this as a hobby. If I somehow take off it'd be great but I think so many people worry about it to death when they don't even know what they're doing, then can't find out why they're failing. 9/10 times they just aren't interesting or good at creating content.

I believe this to some degree. I think some things can be learned, like content creation skills and whatnot, but you can learn to create pretty good content (technically good, as in it hits the right points etc) and still just not have the personality you need to attract an audience. You guys need to get over this shit, seriously. Nearly EVERY successful vtuber has built a community through discord. Zen is the master of it and got a lot of her skills from another person who was essentially a mentor or colleague to them back during the ALA days, I've been an on and off fan long enough to remember that shit. Zentreya and the streamer Nagzz are absolute gods at building a community and it's part of why Zen succeeded and even got this far. Community is king when it comes to content creators, especially smaller ones.

Literally just don't talk to underaged people sexually and you'll be fine. Someone fucks around and is weird in your discord? Remove them. Building a community isn't about just getting fans in one spot, but having that base who is loyal to you and want to see you grow to help you.

No, I just think it's a harsh truth that people don't realize. Some people literally just can't do it. Out of the people from /here/ who I think can make something of themselves, as far as males go only Kongou and Spacer come to mind.

Spacer has set themselves up in the perfect position. I don't find them interesting in the least, but I'm heavily filtered by the space RTS mumbo-jumbo so he's just not for me. I still think he's extremely talented in how he entertains and just need to find that right audience. Higher production quality (which comes with time) and maybe more story-centric campaign building would be interesting to see from him, but it seems like he's just doing his own thing which is fine for anyone doing this as hobby.

Kongou is definitely on the right road and I think they just need to get the right eyes on them. Most of the chuubas from /here/ just lack production quality but that shit costs money.

After you're done being afraid of Discord, focus on building a community, even if you've only got 10-20 viewers.

Network on Twitter and make friends in the community, people come up together not alone. Join discords of vtubers you enjoy and become a part of their community. No, don't just walk in and shill yourself, but engage in other communities if the creator is a friend or makes content that you enjoy.

Stop looking at guides on how to be a vtuber and look at ones on being a streamer and building a community, Ludwig has an excellent one in my opinion. Randon definitely has taken a lot of advice from it and it's served him pretty well.

Fix your fucking audio. Seriously, just fix it.

If you're male, my best advice is to try and be someone that others want to be around. Not saying the whole character bit doesn't work, but I don't think most people can pull that off very well.
