Gura's real money comes from her channel memberships. according to the best estimates she has anywhere from a min of 20k paying members up to 200k paying members. I think the real number is likely between 40-80k. At 40k paying members (assuming they're paying the min $5 membership) she's pulling in a min of $200k/mo in membership $$ alone (of course if her number of members is 80k, that number doubles to $400k/mo)

If you want to know why gura does so much members only content, content that often isn't even archived and she doesn't even make a dime of ad revenue for which doesn't apply to her monthly stats, this is it. It also matches up with why she barely pays attention to her superchats. I mean it's good money (even her 10k made during the character design revieal, worked out to 4k pocket change for her after youtube and cover's cuts, not bad for 55minutes of work) but it's a drop in the bucket compared to what she's probably making through her memberships.

hell, if you consider how ad money and monthly viewers is such a huge chunk for other vtubers, and yet gura seems to care little about posting monetized content, and you'll realize she's raking it in from those memberships.

it's based on statistical modeling based on youtube engagement statistics. Basically extremely high viewer engagement from an audience on youtube will bring in 1/10 likes per real person viewing the content. some videos will do better, some worse, and members can be considered to be the "most" engaged viewers a channel can have, so high membership should see a better then 1/10 engagement (though not as high as 1/5).

when you take in the likes for her member only videos you'll realize quickly where the 200k number comes from. Furthermore we have hard numbers for her membership from a poll in october (9k votes in a members only vote, this is before gura hit 1m subs). Now again, statistically speaking 100% of her memberships did NOT vote in that poll.

When you take in youtube engagement numbers, take the likes on her members videos and then conservitively apply almost double the rate of engagement then youtube considers high for membership engagement you get a BARE min of 20k paid members asuming nearly 100% membership engagement, with much more likely numbers of paid memberships hitting in the 40-80k range and with the least engaged members for a live and growing channel being almost 200k (which is why 200k is cited as the upper limit for the possible number of memberships, however this would be fairly poor engagement from her memberships then is typical for youtube)

If you doubt these numbers check out the costume video again. look at the live chat, everyone with a green name is a currently paying member. Just before she showed her cat ears she was at 194k live viewers, and the wall of text in chat was entirely green memberships. in fact it's almost impossible to find unpaying members in her chat throughout the stream.
