It's easier when you know she's just playing a character. Hololives don't do anything for me except for Nene, because the rest of them come off as extremely fake or scripted. Not that they're bad but the Polka you get from her menhera blog posts is very different from the one she displays on stream for example. The deeper you dig into their real personas the more you're just roommate stalking instead of being a gosling for the vtuber.

Then you find random small indies that are actually perfect and cute and funny and see them struggle to get their personality across to normies and it kills you inside that you want to encourage them to keep being themselves but eventually they either become boring or retire. Like you just wanna say "even if no one else watches, I'll continue to support you forever because your content really improves my day" but she'd just find it cringe or it'd stress her out having to decide between pandering to normies or appeasing her 5 current viewers.

The only thing you can do in that scenario is stop watching as it's bad for your mental health or feed her all your money in superchats and kill yourself when you run out.

See the thing you bring up at the start about persona's is what gets me with Kiara. My oshi happens to be an indie. I've known her for three years and I have seen her grow from single digits viewership to close to three digits. Though she rarely speaks of her IRL stuff, but I've come to understand her better. One time, she got doxed and the guy posted a photo of her cosplaying and I think that set the deal for me.
