ive been trying to figure out what kind of content that i think would find both entertaining to watch and fun to make. I tried following the guide of "1. What do I find fun? 2. How can I make that a group activity?" but I realized that I don't have that many things that I find fun.

>> No.3602447

That's definitely a problem. I feel the appeal of Vtubers to most people (aside from watching them exercise a fine skill like FPS gaming, drawing, music producing, or delivering comedy) is that they seem to be having real, genuine fun (or act it well). Viewers are leeches of fun, living vicariously off of your joy and mirth in most cases. Or at least intense emotion.

In that vein, a close second to enthusiasm could always be to torture yourself with intense, melodramatic displeasure instead, just so long as it's not depressing sad, but instead almost comically slapstick. Do you like horror games?

T.Not the original anon
Wait, does that mean I should not hold myself back if I’m too enthusiastic about a game? There are some games I want to stream where I was actually autistic enough to learn about the development process drama, and can actually gush about level design if no one interrupts me. Is that something that will deter viewers?

>> No.3602851

>>3602447
>Viewers are leeches of fun
wow, that explains why I spend so much time watching other people having fun.

I'm not too crazy about horror games. I'm the type that freezes up and covers my eyes whenever i feel like a jumpscare is gonna happen. While I can probably assume that it would make for a good reaction I feel like horror games isnt the type of content I would be proud of nor enjoy doing for a long time

I've dabbled in game development, art, writing, video editing but all these things usually end up with me getting very bored and dropping the projects.
I do play games on rare occasion but a majority of the time i end up analyzing the game like a developer and making the game look really boring to play.

I helped a friend of mine become a startup vtuber with around 50-65 average viewers but after watching her grow I realized that, compared to me, she's a natural at making anything she does entertaining.
I really want to make something i can be proud of and entertaining for other people to watch but I guess being an entertainer is not for everybody?

I just watch youtube videos like all of you do but you know, here's my 2 cents.

>I'm the type that freezes up and covers my eyes

Adorable. Yes, that's exactly what I was getting at; I'm sure people would love to see that. You can entertain with things you are "bad" at rather than good at. Unfortunately if it will be quite painful to you, you could always just do it sparingly. Or perhaps you should think of it as an example of the type of obstacles you'll have to go through to entertain your fans.

>should I not hold myself back if I'm too enthusiastic

On any given subject matter, it's much more fun to watch someone be enthusiastic about something than to be generally silent and dispassionate, yes. I don't think you can go overboard as a Vtuber. (citation needed) However, that does not mean all subjects will interest your viewers equally. To be vapidly stereotypical, if you go on a blind date where the woman's passion is reality TV and she absolutely gushes about it, it usually will be somewhat mind-numbing for the guy. Same if the guy doesn't stop talking about sports or his MTG card collection.
Tentatively, I'd say the 2 most important things the viewer wants most is for you to be doing something THEY like, and watch YOU love it. A 3rd consideration is that it helps if it's either a novelty or new to you. I don't want to watch someone play COD, I'd rather watch someone play Doom. I don't want them to hate playing it either, I want them to be overjoyed at it. And I don't want to watch Pewdiepie playing it I want to watch Korone play it! I want to see a cute dog girl perk up and audibly gasp as she gets her hands on the BFG for the first time. I've never seen that before. If you have these qualities, you don't need to be GOOD at something, just enthusiastic.
Reaction videos are a good parallel, the most viewed have these very emotional reactions to something the YT audience loves.
However, to reiterate I'd still have much more fun watching you talk about something you love, than watching you try something I love and hating it or looking bored, yes. As for how much they'd enjoy it, probably as much as people enjoy reading me write all this poorly thought out drivel.

>make something i can be proud of and entertaining

Hm. That does sound troubling because what you're proud of doesn't always make for good TV. Or to phrase it the opposite way, entertaining your audience should be what you're proud of! The example that comes to mind is Fubuki's stream where she silently dug a hole straight down in minecraft for 2.5 hours, which got more views than the 20 archived streams before it. In and of itself, Fubuki is not proud of that hole, she would not have dug it in her free time without an audience. But I bet she was proud that she was able to give and have a ton of fun with her viewers. I bet that gave her fulfillment. That's what you require to be an entertainer, yes. You need to be satisfied with them being happy, and oftentimes they're satisfied when you're happy? It's an odd thing.

El gatos are video capture cards, they're there to record your console, not your mic.
You'll need either an USB mic or a XLR Mic+ audio interface. The later may be cheaper than the first and give better results, but the first one is simpler to deal with.

Audiophiles will say yes, but a good USB mic like Rode Podcaster or Rode NT-USB (depending on whether dynamic or condenser is your poison, mine is the latter but dynamic are normally more convenient for streaming) will absolutely sound good enough for vtubing. >> No.3620666

>>3617972
Yes and no. For streaming, the difference won't be that big, but you sing, and want to record/produce music, it makes a lot of difference.

9 out of 10 times your premium USB mic is a mid-tier XLR mic, and your good-enough USB mic is an entry-level XLR. By having the analog-to-digital converter built-in inside the mic, especially compact ones, USB mics usually go cheap with stuff. Meanwhile, XLR mics require an audio interface, a dedicated device, for that alone and the result is obviously better.

They're also usually less capable in collecting your full voice range, particularly with condenser microphones, since USB feeds less power than what an audio interface can supply as phantom power (5v vs 48v), and that power also has to go to the converter. So something has to give in.

XLR cables tend to have not only good shielding - at least the quality ones - but are by design balanced cables and tend to reduce noise and interference, which minimizes that baseline static your mic may get..

Also, because XLR is a professional audio standard, you can plug them on dedicated interfaces/mixers and have far more control over it with real time equalization and monitoring, without that half-a-second delay that throws you off with USB mics and messing with digital effects, which is helpful for audio production.

It also makes easy to record more than one mic at once in a physical location, you just need an audio interface with more than one port, while recording audio from multiple USB Mics is usually a pain in the ass (pc won't recognize the two inputs, messing with virtual audio-cables, usb ports being clocked at different speeds leading to desyncs, etc).

Because the XLR setup is modular, it makes upgrading and troubleshooting easier. Adding new things to your system, such as a mixer or a cloud-lifter is easy. If something breaks, you test it, find what doesn't work and replace the part that's broken. And you can get XLR mics repaired, while good fucking luck getting an USB mic repaired.

Renting XLR mics is also a thing, so if you want to test equipment before upgrading you likely can do that if you live in big city - meanwhile you'll be hard pressed to do that with USB mics.

USB quality is decent enough and they're portable, which helps a lot. If you're not tech-inclined or just want a quick once-and-done solution, the plug-and-play aspect of it helps a lot too - but you can simply do much more with an XLR setup.

The Steinberg UR22 is a good interface and is in-line with the other offers in its range.

About the mic... well, what to you want to do? Just streaming games and chatting, or will you do some singing? How much time are you willing to invest into adjusting your setup?

If you're going the gaming/chatting route, the MV7 is good, but if you're getting an interface, the double USB/XLR funtion may not redundant and a lot of the features it has can be dealt with if you just fiddle with equalization filters on OBS (and that may not even be necessary) - so I can't help but feel you're paying premium for some convenience.

I'd personally go with something else like the Shure SM-58 or the Rode Podmic chat/gaming, or the AT2020 if you also intend to do some singing too - any of those 3 will serve you really well, probably with very little difference in quality and for less than half of the price of an MV7.

in OBS, there should be an option to set up a Noise Gate. it basically eliminates all background noise that falls under a certain threshold. again, there are some useful guides on how to set it up.

if you're using an nvidia 2000 or 3000 series card, there is https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/broadcasting/broadcast-app/ which is extremely good at killing background noise, animal sounds, mouse clicks and keyboard clacks.

Some generic advice since I don't really know your setup.

If you mic is omni-directional (which is most headsets) or a condenser (like your friend's a Blue Yeti Nano) you may want to get the mic closer to your mouth (pointed at the corner of your mouth to avoid breathing direactly into it.. Also, avoid putting it on the same surface you'll be playing so the vibration does

Also, OBS has a Noise Supression and a Noise Gate filter that may help with background noise:

Keep in mind that if you use the tools agressivelly, they'll make your sound too artificial.

A propper audio balance may help to mask some of the noise too.

>> No.3623820

>>3623472
>i have noise gate as well! the problem is that the clicking/tapping shows up when i talk
The noise gate is, well, a gate, or rather a switch, it basically says: "if the audio isn't this loud, don't pick it" - but once the audio hits that's threshold, it'll pick it all.
You want to turn noise supression on instead of the Noise gate - it'll basically supress every noise below a certain threshold and minimize environmental noise.

Also, if your mic has multiple polar patterns, chose the cardioid one (the one shaped like a heart) and have the front of the mic pointed at you, as it will not pick background noite.

Otherwise, either live with that or listen to the anon's advice in the mic pastebin and get a dynamic mic.

Thank you again for the feedback anons, I have been lurking here for a while but never posted myself directly too often. I am planning on doing a magical girl transformation sequence for one of my future streams (hopefully in the next week or two). My idea was to record a movie file of it and to find a way to transition from my model, to the file, and then when the video ends have up the new costume model on screen.

Are there any other chuubas who have done something similar? I wouldn't mind checking out examples of similar things to get an idea of how I should do it, or if anyone here has any suggestions

No. Triggerfyre is specially for toggling OBS sources and/or playing sounds when a viewer redeems a channel point reward. It cannot automatically switch your model unless you had something like two instances of prprlive (or similar) running and two unique sources in OBS. Which would absolutely kill your CPU.

Zentreya just used pretty lights and color to hide them going into the menu of VSee/Luppet/SUVA/w/e program they use and manually switching over. There's no fancy trick to it.

Of course you may face some hate from the anti lgbt faction but if you decide to go with that then try it, find a good trap model, talk like a girl and so on but remember to let them know you're not one, think about Astolfo, Felix and Hideri, did they said they were women? Don't be afraid to stretch naming conventions slightly or borrow words from other languages too. reverb effects can be done via software. VoiceMod is probably one of the more commonly used voice effects programs out there. the free version is very limited, but it's not that expensive if you want to unlock all the features.

some of the big names like the Holos use a GoXLR hardware mixer which comes with its own effects (pic related ) that can be used to add effects on the fly. the goxlr is expensive (~$500 ) and only works with XLR mics (hence the xlr part of the name)

there's dozens of babinikus for you to enjoy then, filthy coomer. The fact is though that most people that watch VTubers expect the model to sound like the voice. Voice is extremely important in this field, and it's probably one of the main things that filters potential viewers

no clue but as a psa why would you apply to a company that doesn't even mention them and sweeps it under the table.

even new agencies like akio and cyber are doing better growth-wise already than them and they don't even have talents yet

begging you anons don't apply to virpro

>>3655312
looking into them, I'm pretty sure one of the virpro girls self posted here a few months ago before her debut
also it looks like the other talents are doing well number wise so but I'm wondering how much the company really helped in that regard

2011-2012 or so. I remember joining after /r9k/ came back but not before, and I spent my earliest years there before eventually migrating to /co/, /ck/, /biz/, /an/, and [s4s].

I'm here trying to keep my fire burning while I wait in waitlist hell for my artist. And trying to help who I can. Should probably work on some other stuff but I already have a lot of the stream stuff I need since I did it off and on over the past two years myself (which wont be connected to the vtuber account). I should really work on that 'moderation/community management' advice document I said I'd do.

i heard it they asked for the company not to say anything but that was just something I saw from one of their friends

either way I'm not really a fan of them not saying anything it made things really awkward and that's why I wonder if the girls there are happy or not i just want to ask them to blink twice if they're in danger ww

I remember being in college so maybe 2009 but I didn't know how to actually navigate until like two years later and found more boards than just /b/ now I'm just on every anime board and cant stop wing unironically wwww

A moderation/community advice document sounds like an interesting read. I have experience running a small forum and modding for a large Discord server, but I don't feel like either of those experiences will translate into streaming, at least not fully. I'll keep an eye on the threads and wait warmly for it.

I got the document up to like... 4 or 5 pages or so then stopped working on it a bit ago. Still needs finalizing and cleanup since there's a bunch of empty sections I meant to write up information for, and the first part (content strategy) isn't as relevant. Was one of the original mods for a twitch channel thats been running for... over 3 years, is partnered and all that. So while I'm not a big streamer myself I've talked to them constantly over the years as the mod team are basically part of all decision making.

I'm late to the party, but seconding this. From what I've gathered, the two talents that left did so because VirPro was more focused on numbers than actual meaningful content. They also don't appear to understand how social media works based on how little they actually shilled their talents
