In Japan their strategy makes a lot more sense as they have a top roster of more stable talent, then occasional hits they jump on. On that last point, I know people like to say Nijisanji is quantity over quality, but I've always felt that JP has mostly been quality. Like, yes, they have a huge number of vtubers, but it always felt like JP all at least had their niche and Anycolor actually had a decent eye at finding talents. With EN, even from Lazulight days the talent scouting has been questionable, considering certain members. The state of EN is genuinely just sad at this point, and in some ways I do feel bad for them, but then again they did this to themselves.

What you probably don't understand (never having played gachas before), is that since gachas are designed to make rolling exciting, viewers get sucked into the same mindset and get much more engaged in the stream despite it being low effort. Spending money on gachas is inadvisable in your free time, but if it's part of your job as a streamer, it's basically spending money to earn more money, so long as you know what you're doing.

That's a size thing though, there are just so many JPs that they are lost in the ocean. With EN we kept seeing waves do worse till Luxiem showed up, and then the trend started up again.
