in order for a youtube live stream to work, the backend infrastructure to receive the stream has to be up, *and* the encoding farm that serves the frontend traffic has to be up. on youtube, you *never* receive video unless it has been re-encoded by the encoding farm. there is no mode at all for directly retransmitting the streamer's own encoding. this applies to audio, too, and even the same formats (libavcodec AAC and MPEG-4 video) get re-encoded in a slightly different way for the VOD.

the problem today appears to have been that the encoding farm went down. the incident started in the US and eventually swept through asia and europe. the US seems to be back now, but i'm not sure what the status is in the rest of the world.

Ya know, the more I watch her the more I'm kind of terrified by her.
Under the veneer of cute and adorable that they've built up with her character, there's still a clearly defined cynicism in Gura. It's sharp, cutting, and very, very aggressive. I don't know what it is. What kind of despair has she gone through? This malaise of uninviting attitude under her sarcasm is not something any normal person has naturally. It comes with degradation of the mental psyche, like a gamer who's played just one too many games. There's a predatory bite to her words. I can sense, innately, a grating disregard she has for her audience.
It's kind of bewildering. None of the other vtubers seem to share this compunction for causticity. Behind those bright gamer eyes is a very dark, slowly dying yet unwaveringly vicious soul that's not dimmed despite all best effort.
Fitting she dons the form of a shark.

This. I haven't been this invested and empathetic towards another human since my teenage years, and that was a long while ago. Gura has made me feel and remember things I have long thought impossible and faded. She's also making me ruminate on my own life and the choices I've made simply by triggering those feelings within me.

I'm genuinely at a loss here. I'm too old to be easily swayed, infatuated or fanboyish. Yet somehow Gura touched the depths of my soul by doing... nothing special at all. Just being herself. And she doesn't even know who I am, or has met me, or is even aware of her effects on people. My only theory is that she has a lot of inherent power as a person, in some instinctual, primal way beyond rationality. She doesn't control it, she simply IS and her BEING has a strong influence. I have only known men like that up until now.

Gura exists and is like girls were when I was a kid and teen in the 90s. I haven't felt this kind of femininity in over twenty years, and I only now see how much I missed it and need it in my life. Indeed, HoloEN girls as a whole play a part in this. They are all wonderful.
