I won't go to a doc in the US or Canada unless it's an emergency or I have no choice in the matter, but my reasoning isn't to do with cost, it's because I know the malpractice statistics and know that they could easily kill me or make the problem worse instead of better. It's a serious problem that gets overlooked because of the way the health industry works, there's too few actual doctors/nurses and they're horribly overworked to the point of becoming ineffective. At least my dentist is different, I trust her and have no issue going there, but that's because it's a small, local independent-corporate system that can actually run itself competently because of its size and low overhead.
