I just start watching them less and less, because the effect of redesigns is like coming home one day and suddenly your mother, gf, or wife has fish lips and balloon tits and you don't know what to say, and it's awkward so you just start spending more time at work.

The changes are never good and it's only in extremely rare cases that there's some technical issue that needs to be fixed but never the actual appearance. nuLumi is just another generic, soulless gacha tier model with no substance. It's the simple, minimalist designs that become iconic, not this Chinese bullshit. Lumi's old model was literally perfect and to me THAT is Lumi, not whoever the fuck this is. This is true for all vtubers mind you. Once they do a redesign I just stop watching them. A redesign means you lost your face and identity, nothing else and nothing more.

There's actually an excellent example of this in anime - Gunslinger Girl. Season 2 had a radical redesign and I couldn't make it past the first ten minutes of the first episode. That's what it feels like to see a vtuber pull a redesign. It just totally kills their appeal and destroys their identity. At that point everything will forever feel truly artificial, fake and like shifting sands. It unpersons a vtuber. On top of that ALL redesigns follow a basic theme - make it gacha, add huge tits. They all unironically look the same. One of the hilariously sad examples was Petra Gurin's redesign where she went from a cool loli with a potty mouth to a generic creature with huge tits. The funniest thing in Lumi's case is that she already had huge tits and now they're even bigger to the point of being a caricature, and that's just the beginning of the problem. Yuri's redesign was much, much worse though, a total disaster, a complete wreck. But in both cases I just can't watch them anymore, which is a shame since both are great streamers. Yet, it's impossible to endure the bad redesign when you know how they're actually supposed to look like, so no thanks. You could almost say that redesigns are the vtuber equivalent of trooning out. In fact that's exactly how it feels like. Imagine watching... I dunno, Count Dankula?
