I think it'd be even worse for both if Grape left the rigging of the new model in its current form. Having friends as business partners is both a blessing and a curse.
Also, the face rigging looks fine by me, but the rest of the model needs some work. And ditching the model entirely isn't really an option, because it's already part of the lore and merch.
