41482025 No.41482025 [Reply] [Original]

Should vtubers just go full on lean into their lore and play their character more or should they just "be themselves" because I am not gonna lie, a lot of vtubers that become themselves after a while end up being fucking awful unlike when they started and had to play a character of sorts.

>play their character more
This
The real question is how hard should they go into playing the character?

>> No.41482574

>>41482025
Unironically they need to use kayfabe more, too many are just themselves and are thus boring. Build lore with your streams, work it into the streams, be creative.

If they can be themselves by making themselves more like the idealized version of their character then we all win

The big-brained move is keeping it at a level where nobody can tell whether your life stories are real or not by mixing them with your kayfabe.

To be fair, if she goes full in on lean her streams might improve till she an heros on the stuff.

Doppio is the best NijiEN hire exactly because he's a kayfabe autist imo.
I just think its neat

Being themselves but also incorporating character lore is the most kino choice. Pic related.

Kronii is a great example of people needed to act more in character

You literally can do both

Full on kayfabe. If I have a mutually exclusive choice to watch a chuuba with kayfabe or another one that's literally themselves, I'll choose the kayfabe. Regardless if it's an indie or corpo, I'll always prefer those with kayfabe and lore and not just "I'm a demon vtuber that plays games"

An indie I’m watching recently puts in a lot of effort in her stream backgrounds and other stuff just to commit to her lore which was really impressive.
Not gonna expect the EN corpos/branches to ever pull this off successfully because majority of the audience doesn’t want that and even finds the idea cringe I miss Sana…
Honestly I just want EN vtubers to act like Kizuna Ai who used to pretend she’s an actual AI, but if I can’t find any there’s still a handful of JP vtubers who do this shit, I guess

I mean they can own the character to the point where they can be themselves, but a lot of vtubers tend to just forget the lore and are just "magical anime character that does normal shit"

>> No.41489572

They gotta do some heavy planning each stream for that. I'm talking real coordination with mods, supas, collabs and all the other shit to make sure that the kayfabe remains intact.

Either that or don't bother with lore at all. Plenty of popular chuubas get by with no complicated backstory at all. Like Subaru and Nene.

>> No.41489740

>>41489572
I think they would have to be good at improv instead. It doesn't really have to be hard kayfabe; they just have to think of lore-compatible rationalizations on the fly -- they can review the VOD afterward for whatever they came up with so it's consistent in future streams

>> No.41491852

>>41489572
I mean it could be pretty easy, just play the character, its not so hard for someone to say oh "I shot a fireball at a lizard today" or some shit like that

Yeah, just a healthy mix. It'd probably help if they were already creative content creators before entering (they like to write stories or some such) so they can make up shit as they go along
>be a knight vtuber
>have a backache
>"Oh I've been riding with the cavalry for too long today, but we can still play minecraft"
something like that

it worked for a while for desuwa, but according to the (((numbers))), people get tired of that gimmick

Kronii, Calli, like majority of Vshoujo/NijiEN girls
>>41482025
and yes they should do kayfabe more, as much as people might hate them, Goob and that homo Flyon are good examples of being entertaining BECAUSE they are playing a character and not just "durr im just me but with an anime avatar."

>> No.41494338

>>41488221
Because this depends on the type of content you create, if you're going to go deep in lore autism you can't just play vidya every stream and hope something comes out of it. And it's really hard to be in character all the time when live streaming, specially if streaming for long times.

>> No.41494743

>>41482025
I think it becomes more natural to loosen up on lore with time, particularly if they do a lot of casual content like zatsus. Inevitably the sheen wears off and a core fanbase forms with an identity who hone in on all the little quirks.

Keeping it to a certain degree though helps not only to retain identity and appeal but also to keep a bit of a barrier up which I think is beneficial for both the viewer's and the streamer's mental health.

If you're playing a character, go all in and make it obvious that you're playing a character. If not just bee yourself but filter out the undesirable parts because in the end you're an anime character and anime characters should be ideal

vtubers should do whatever they feel helps them or their viewers have a better time

personal opinion, "lore" should be used to flavor what you say, not define who you are

Its fun when they are like Luna, who leans so much into her character than it befomes a joke or like The noone who said fuck my kayfabe I'll just make a new one, then did it like 4 more times for fun

Oh my god I tried to go to sleep to a moona stream last night. She literally said "I could be a moon goddess, but I like telling stories about my life." Then she launched into the most boring story about her brother's new gf. Shut up moona, please. I would rather have an ASMR keyboard stream.

There's a few problems with the wrestler analogy, the biggest being wrestling is completely scripted and they only have to perform on air a couple hours a month. Easy to stay in character in that situation. Having said that though, the desuwa girl shows theres an audience for it.
