Back when I was in high school, the most vicious and malicious students who engaged in the heaviest bullying always either had mediocre or outright ugly looks. The most athletically and academically successful students were always popular because they were the only ones with the social clout to push back against the group above. This falls apart once you take it out of a vacuum because it's a double-edged sword. Becoming a streamer in general, let alone the niche of a vtuber, is a massively losing bet and less than 0.01% make any sort of living or fame from it. On the other hand, being actually, naturally attractive IRL opens doors and tips the scales if you're considered next to someone with equivalent qualifications, for anything ranging from social groups to leadership positions to jobs. The same things that are supposed to make you charismatic are the same things that eat up your time, energy and commitments and make for overwhelmingly better alternatives pulling you away from even starting to sit in a bedroom talking to five people online (if you're lucky).
More likely everyone is simply average-looking but has at least decent aesthetic sense, which you do need to not be an MS paint or uncanny valley vtuber and filter people at the first hurdle.
