I don't understand Japanese but I sure do watch JP's. Feelings and emotions are universal. Also, the shork often addresses them in her limited Japanese, which I find both commendable and adorable. Samegaki is a treasure and I want them to see and enjoy her as much as we do.

Some of them though (Marine) talk super fast and use a lot of obscure references and I can't understand her at all. Since there are only a couple HoloENs I'd think it's not that easy to notice which ones are easier to understand for ESLs but I'd assume Mori has the most precise pronunciation of her words so would be easiest to get.

>Mori is liked a lot because of the amount of work she does for her songs, also because hardworker in general, her gap moe is one of the most discussed topics according to them and also one of the reasons she's so liked, as they say:
>"Mori is like if the concept of Gap Moe came to life, or death"
>People tune in to Ina's streams just for the comfy atmosphere even if they understand nothing, also because drawing and chill tako
>"Tako is very cute, very calm"
>Kiara's personality is fun to see in action for them but her voice is a hit or miss for viewers, which is a shame because she tends to talk in Japanese so the JPs understand the context of her topics, they are still surprised that she understands Japanese so well, they also like seeing Kiara struggle, not suffer, just struggle
>"Wait, she speaks Japanese well too?"
>JPbros struggle to understand or watch Amelia, they like the fact that she's very different from the entire group in terms of dynamics and humor but they can't understand her, language barrier and different humor makes them half-way unable to enjoy her streams and thus they get filtered, some are trying to learn English to watch her but most of the Japanese Teamates are on middle school level of English and according to them, "Japanese apps to learn english suck, I want to understand Watson"
>"Kaigai-Nikki, is this what you feel when trying to understand Haachama?, because we don't understand her either!!!"
>Gura is liked a lot, she contests Mori on popularity charts, they really like her gimmick and voice, specially when she sings, and they joke about Gura "Increasing the amount of Lolicons" or "Outing them", they like the fact that her voice fits her character very well, they don't know or don't care about HER.

I'm kinda like this too, I genuinely want to know what they think. And hope for a lewd comment or opinion here and there.

This is one of the rare examples of media that isn't fucking shit (American woke propaganda) around which we can gather and discuss it, and I think there's great potential in mutual translations. Why aren't older JP streams subtitled in English? And vice versa? Why is that not a thing? It should be someone's legit job to do this. If Cover did that it would draw a lot of people to the JP side as well. As a eurofag I'm used to listening to languages I barely understand or not at all, so I can and do watch JP holos, but most people aren't like that.

Full streams can't be subtitled since Cover will strike you for that. Thus, clipfags exist.

Answer I think is that, there's too much fucking content, it's a black hole of content, there's more and more being produced every day at a rate that is inhumanly impossible to watch, you'd have to be watching day in and out for several months to even catch up to a single on of the first gen's current archive, not to mention the amount of deleted content from the archives due to cover's retardedness that lost us a shit ton of content.

To be honest all the EN girls are pretty formidable talents in their own right.

Also on the note of English - it's been compulsory in Croatian schools since circa 1992. But the difference here is that in Europe you are surrounded by people with different languages so you intrinsically kinda learn to pick up cues and emotional states or intents from languages you don't even understand. And most of us know at least one more language by default. I for instance know English and German. I can decipher written Italian as well. Americans are barely able to handle English and in recent years it has begun to degenerate as a language.

Part of the problem exists because a lot of JP english learning books and study plans were designed by JP individuals who learned broken english themselves too, let the problem run wild for a generation or two and you got the unreliable modern Japan "English tests" which EN speaking natives tend to fail because the teachers learn a lot of english but never really practice it with anyone that isn't Japanese so mistakes just keep getting made and taught to others, the average Japanese who actually paid attention to his EN lessons in High School might be able to understand some informal text in English (like YT comments or some memes without the humor) but will likely not be able to get through a book let alone a conversation, much less an informal one, it's a very serious problem that the JP government is trying to solve but they don't know how because it's rooted deep within the systems they funded for decades.

Reminder that Japan is heavily isolated from the rest of the world when it comes to media and conversation. The concept of talking to everyone from around the world in the same language is foriegn to them.
There could be germans in this thread, likely are. French. Danish. Turkish. South Americans. Indians maybe. When you know English the entire first world, minus Japan (though even there most everything has an english option), opens up to you.

Imagine for a moment you have a niche interest like v-tubing but it's the other way around, you're japanese and the primary audience is english viewers. Do you really think the few Jap translators will translate your content for you? I don't see any Japanese vinesauce clips or Japanese Jerma clips, etc etc.

Genuinely you should feel bad for them. Their language is cool, and their media great, as well as culture, in general, but come on -- being denied the internet of over two billion fluent to semi fluent speakers? How many more know enough to pass? It's a pity. The only thing even remotely comparable for a westerner is the great firewall of china -- isn't it insane imagining all those forums and videos you'll never see, and of those you do you'll never understand? Even then though -- we know what modern China looks like. Not exactly a great place for interesting thought or kind people.

Friend, I will happily take the position of the American. I dislike many things about my country and it's current culture, but I've seen first hand the work of immigrants and the benefits of multiculturalism when done as more than a buzz word.
To be able to hear Japanese, Chinese, Spannish, German -- all in one day -- is a gift. To enjoy each culture in the same day is likewise a gift.
That I can find most any media in English is a tremendous gift. The internet feels infinite to me. I know there are corners dark to me yet lit for others -- but said corners are rapidly diminishing.

I don't know how often an English speaker takes an honest look at our luxary, but it is truly something to not underappreciate or estimate. It's not uncommon in Europe. And by that I mean it's very common. Here in Croatia we have three major dialects which are further fragmented into local dialects. You can and do have people that live next to each other and they'll share maybe 50% of the vocabulary or less. Not because they're speaking a different or foreign language but because place A may retain archaisms that B does not and vice versa. And on top of that comes the who-ruled-who deal and foreign influences. The official Croatian language that is used in schools and media is based on the shtokavian dialect which is understood by all because it's the smallest and youngest dialect, but as a consequence "official" Croatian sounds stilted and weird to everyone since nobody actually talks like that. It's a vastly more complicated situation than one part of America using a y'all and the other you all.

It took us 300 years just to come up with and agree upon ortography, because the other two dialects - chakavian and kajkavian - had mutually divergent traditions that were centuries old. Meaning, before the American continents were discovered books were being written in those languages and so on.

The same is true for most of Europe. France brutally suppressed its linguistic diversity for instance.

Japanese and English are very different. EN is easier in the sense you only have 26 characters to learn and every word is just made up of those vs. kanji, hiragana, and katakana. However, EN has a lot of irregular verbs, like I ran and I run instead of "I runned to the tree." EN is also really made up of 4 (or you could argue just 2) languages, German-base, French pronunciation, and Latin or Greek words for most words over 2 syllables.

So, it's actually really hard to learn either from if you're a native speaker. Japan is and the US is functionally an Island too, so that's why both cultures have low polyglot rates.

i haven't learned much japanese but my understanding is mistakes are much more serious an issue. You can be completely understandable yet incorrect in English -- such as i runned to get the pizza to mr john. Runned isn't a word but since English is a majority ESL language it's hard to find many people who'll lambast you for it.
In contrast I imagine things like te miru and miru being important to understand the difference of in a sentence. Changes meaning from 'try' to 'see'

Yes, and you're probably also always going to have an accent. I've seen ESL Japanese people on TV and YT and they speaking English like they're a Japanese speaker (which obviously makes sense). Learning a second language is just difficult in general, because people don't really "learn a language", they acquire it. So, unless you're heavily engaged in a different culture or language, you're probably not going to be very successful at it. Japanese -> English or vice versa just happens to be a more difficult change than something really easy like German to English or Spanish to English. Japan and English are easier in some ways though because they actually have media you might enjoy vs. German where I spent 2 years learning (foreign language requirement at my university) and haven't spoken it since and can't name any German media that's relevant right now.
