Pre-vshojo Melody basically broke open the EN scene. She proved that there was a shitload of money ready for taking and Hololive suddenly got real interested in doing EN auditions.
They were right too. Myth basically cleaned up while Niji was fence-sitting.

They were trying to capitalize on it but that drama with that nux guy knee capped their potential. It showed that they were willing to sick their fans on someone without actually having the full story, that Melody and their management outright kept quiet or hid what was going on instead of admitting that both sides messed up, and that they were letting all the indie vtubers get doxxed just so that they could maybe catch some scammers.
Also the fact that they let clout chasers latch on to them and tried to appeal to the twitter crowd while also attaching themselves to the most controversal content creators on twitch and youtube.
Vshojo could have been bigger and could have had a lot more people but the fact that they didn't have strong oversight like other corpos had screwed them at the start.
Note, the lack of oversight works better now but they definitely needed someone to tell them to shut the fuck up when they start.
