/asp/ is a thread for vtubers to give and receive advice related to vtubing.

Like the other guy said it's only been a couple weeks, and to answer your question: Nothing. That time period was a large gap and absence of activity, sometimes completely.
We have some literal newbloods though who are a bit more brave, and that is actually also encouraging some people who I have seen self post maybe once months ago, to actually start self posting again now. People are looking to interact with eachother, feel more open, and the general is healing.

a lot of people stayed in the discord, some people moved on from streaming, some moved to different identities, and some grew
there weren't a lot of new faces showing up though and a lot of the people who had been around started posting less; the thread was barren as it tends to be between crops of streamers. i think there was a period where people were more pushing for this thread to die as well saying that it served a purpose but as usual, there always ends up being people who come to this thread at the same time to find inspiration and advice to start streaming

it used to be timed with nijisanji and hololive auditions. very few people were aware of auditions when holo en 1 came out and when nijisanji wave 1 and holo en gen 2 auditions came about, every anon and their mother wanted to apply. this started the very first thread when it used to be called /auds/ for auditions. over time however anons realized how cutthroat the application process was and the thread became less about corporate auditions and more about generally helping anons who wanted to stream as a hobby and became /asp/ for aspiring vtubers.

this surge of new chuubas would happen now and again each time auditions came around from the two main corpos but it's started winding down as the overall hype of vtubers started to dwindle. couple that with the rise of discord servers for aspiring vtubers, twitter groups and the like. while /vt/ used to be one of the most active places for vtuber discussion it has become less popular over time as more mainstream forums have taken over.

I think part of what helped this thread rejuvenate was whoever changed the op. Making the thread less focused on new debuts invited more serious discussion on the general vtubing topics for people trying to become better vtubers which ironically made the thread more welcoming to newly debuting chuubas. For quite some time the general feeling of a large portion of the thread users was that it only existed so that creepy groomers could find fresh females to groom.

You can do much better than that anon. Notice how the pixels aren't "actually" pixels, they move around and rotate in ways that aren't aligned to the pixel grid.

The best way would be to render a normal model with a shader downscaling it in post, like me . Then it'd look really retro. If you're cool, you can even do dithering in the shader for that PC-98 look.

I'm doing it with custom software, but it might be possible to handle the pixel case with just OBS, if there's a way to downscale and then re-upscale with nearest neighbor filtering (this is the thing to look for, things like "linear" upscaling with look blurry while nearest neighbor will have nice crispy chunky pixels).

If you want to do fancier stuff, I suspect using a VRM model alongside Unity would be the easiest way.

Your model is incredibly unappealing. The model is a very early design. I'm working with an illustrator to redesign it before I started. I even invented a silly lore reason for its replacement. The new design is a bit more slim.

The softness of my voice was actually incidental. I had sudden company barge into the house unexpectedly and I couldn't really project without being rude. That should resolve itself in the coming months with some acoustics and background noise changes.
I also got the model super on the cheap so its no love lost to hear its a little off.

How do people go about commissioning assets?
Was thinking about going on Skeb and just putting in several requests that can be used for schedules, loading screens, etc etc but do people let the artist know that the material will be used specifically as an asset? Or do they just go through twitter artists since most speak english

Sometimes you get lucky and find somebody on Twitter. /aco/ has a discord with some fairly inexpensive through mostly inexperienced artists who will do just about anything, there are asset dedicated markets and discords for asset commissions and sales. We had one artist join one of the /asp/cords and just offer to make certain kinds of assets. Just about any way you'd find an artist for anything else you could find an artist for your stream assets.

yup. back then i was trying out streaming on livestream.com on 500 bitrate in a 600x400 window, i think that was like 2009-2011 actually. It's been a blast seeing how far it has come, i can even livestream from my phone outside in full HD these days and I'll probably always stock around to see where it goes. it's just a fun medium to express yourself

I watched it before typing that. Yes, some of the replies were dumb. You did take them seriously and at face value. The result is that they were mocked.

Personally, I don't see an issue with mocking people for entertainment or for entertainment media to have political themes, I just dislike the fact your video was purely reactionary commentary of a political subject. Of people on Twitter. There's not a lot of substance there in the entertainment direction or the political commentary one.

If I had a suggestion for your political videos, it would be for you to clearly state your own view on things, rather than just saying that you deny or think the views of those you're commentating on are logically flawed.

For example, rather than saying

as a response to someone saying that they keep theirs at home instead of carrying it, you could say something along the lines of
> The point of a gun is to carry it for self-defense (or whatever reason)

If you want to actually be a political channel, actually say things.

I'm not being dismissive of you. As I said before, I want to be impartial and give people advice, I just think your video could've been much better.

On the topic of political commentary as entertainment, I think a good example would be John Oliver? While his content is essentially the same as yours, mocking people while pointing out the policies of the people he's mocking, he adds entertainment value to it through comedy.

I said before that I dislike political commentary in entertainment media, but John Oliver delivers it as entertainment. Ah, well, the distinction is thin enough that my point is kind of moot unless I try to explain it for like forever.

I'm fine with political commentary. I just think it should be taken more seriously as a genre. There are points that people can debate upon and still never reach an agreement, but that doesn't mean the argument should just devolve to "they're all idiots" being thrown from both sides of the room.
