That's not how that works. You can have a song and have different people own the lyrics, the performance of said lyrics, the backing track performance, the samples used in said backing track, the actual master recording of the song, rights for radio, rights for commercial sale, etc, etc.

In this case Ame/Cover owm the performance vocals, Dr. Seus state owns the lyrics, Holobass owns the beat. But because Ame's performance relies on lyrics she does not own she can't sell said music. Either Holobass or Dr. Seus state state could DMCA Cover/Ame if they wanted.

To me, the whole Hololive apparatus seems to be rusting, but most of it seems to be centered around the fact that Cover Corp just has no idea how to prioritize their resources. They make sure every streamer has a manager that basically just makes sure they go to dance and singing practice and shit, and they're really focused on making sure the girls are available for brand deals and sponsorships, cranking out merch and shilling anything they can, but they don't actually spend any time making sure the girls home-work is remotely protected or fun for them. Cover doesn't seem to care if the girls are enjoying what they're doing, so long as they'll be good to go for the next virtual concert or whatever.

I think its pretty clear a lot of the girls just want to have their fans, play their games, fuck around and do dumb shit with each other, and not have to worry, but instead they have to do all of that while getting mobbed, dealing with drama, and having a company who is telling them to shut up and keep their brand-safe image.

There's clearly some pretty big fissures on the inside that are probably going to start splitting once Coco is gone.

Cover went for the "Idol company" corporate culture, that was and arguably still is their main focus (though certainly not as powerful as it was back at the start). A lot of their problems regarding the huge stress the girls go through, how controlled the content is and what they prioritize is related to this.

The thing is, they have found a lot of success using this method.

Niji took a much more relaxed approach and it got decisively mogged in numbers and brand recognition, which is the only two things the company cares about.

Go for an even more relaxed approach without the more modest and respectful cultural sensibilities of Japanese people and you end up with pic related, which although successful in terms of numbers, doesn't have a really high reputation.

We can hate on Cover's corporate culture all we want but ultimately it's from that environment that the group that all the great talents that we love and that serve as the undisputed face of Vtubing post-2018 come from.

By all means, t*nigo is a faggot and Cover is retarded, but they must be doing at least some things really well, otherwise they wouldn't have ended up with such a powerful brand.

Right, the problem seems to be that they started as a tech company, and saw the chance to get into the Kizuna Ai business by selling their tech solutions to streamers as a new venture, and that evolved into them deciding it would be worth it to just own the streamers and make the money off them. Which is perfectly fine, they wanted to be a streamer representative, but unlike most of those, they wanted to sell their mascots as brand representatives and advertising billboards, and make money off their merch and concerts and shit, while also having them make money and generate buzz on their own when not out doing that stuff. And that's where the conflict comes in.

They essentially sold a lot of C-list and failed Japanese voice actors, actresses, stage hosts, internet girls, etc. on the idea of being a professional singer/performer while being a streamer on the side. And now you have some of the girls who are clearly in it for the idol stuff and streaming is just a distraction for them, and you have others who are clearly far more interested in streaming and don't give a shit about being on stage, and for some of those the money and the business is the important part and for others having the community and support and friends is bigger for them.

I think the truth is, Cover doesn't want streamers. Cover wants brand-friendly advertising mascots. Streaming is just free money on the side of that, and they weren't really prepared and continue to not be interested in the work required to maintain a healthy online life for public figures. They're a tech company, not a PR company, and they refuse to become that for some reason.

I'm not denying they created characters and found personalities that people would fall in love with, they clearly did. And I'm not denying that there is a market for their virtual idol concerts and image, because clearly there is. In fact, I'd even suggest they're clearly hitting a market demand no one else is actively serving.

BUT. They seem to have no interest in actually making sure the entertainers they hire are being taken care of or supported day-to-day. The truth seems to be that Cover is just a tech company that decided on a whim to host streamers, but never actually spent any time figuring out or devoting resources to figuring out what that means on a day-to-day level. They were completely fucking blindsided by the idea that you had to copyright-protect your livestreams, and they seem to be oblivious to the idea that their entertainment personalities on the internet go through all kinds of shit that has nothing to do with smiling and doing a voice for a commercial and if your company is going to employ these people you probably should make sure they're not breaking down behind the scenes.

And its' not a lack of money, they're fucking flush. They just don't want to restructure their company to handle this stuff.
