>>50424990
That's correct! All the Morinium properties tend to intensify together (since they're all correlated to how active the vitubium is). So Morinium that is going through cooling processes will also emit light, barring some niche usages. And appropriately, that colour will be pink, though some variation in hue are possible. Picrel would be the colour of pure, "standard" morinium emitted light. How did that come up?

I don’t know if it counts as spoilers but basically I was planning my writing and I figured Morinium-based cooling would be very useful for weapons that can’t rely on heat sinks or air to cool down. I’m thinking if people can tell whether a weapon is cooled by Morinium or other more conventional cooling system like quenching just by observing its operation from a distance

Yes, that is one of the best uses for the stuff in space. Heat management is a huge concern in a vacuum, and radiators tend to be bulky and fragile by nature of maximizing surface area, so a material that can make waste heat just go somewhere else would be useful.
There's also the stealth aspect, since (unlike radiators) morinium absorbing heat doesn't emit an infrared heat signature. However, that process would emit a significant conceptual wave emission, which would be easy to monitor. So it'd only be stealthy to less advanced or comprehensive sensor packages.

>>50426760
Yes, it would work great actually! That's what is called a Curie point radiator. Most designs I've seen rely on how ferrous metals lose their magnetism at high temperatures (that temperature is the Curie point), so what you do is you shoot a stream of molten metal out of your ship, then the stream with a high temperature and surface area radiates the heat away and cools down below the Curie point. Then you can simply use a magnet to attract the cooler metal back to the ship, send it through a heat exchanger, and melt it again. Rince and repeat.
On top of having fewer bits that are easy to break, they also would have the massive advantage of looking really cool.

Doesn’t it have an emission spike at 704 nm? I feel like it’s close enough to the edge of infrared that some of the energy released would be in IR. I wonder how a conceptual wave sensor would work…

You're right, but the trick is that the Morinium doesn't need to be exposed to the vacuum of space, unlike a radiator (which radiates heat of the ship to the rest of the universe). So you can enclose it so as to contain all light emissions and prevent their detection. I haven't put any numbers on it, but supposedly the heat energy absorbed by the morinium is greater than the light energy emitted, otherwise I don't think it would cool very well.
That's a good question... I think a basic idea would be that if vitubium emits conceptual waves using energy, you can use vitubium to absorb conceptual waves and detect a change in energy level. Similar to how a radio antenna can be used to both detect and emit a radio signal (though they tend to be optimized for one or the other.)
Or maybe some devices could work more like a compass with magnetic fields, and show the direction and strength of a conceptual field as a proxy for the conceptual waves. A bit like the Galileo thermometer-inspired VT-meter from Sojourning which raises the bubbles in response to the ambient magical field.

Yep, to a trained eye the difference would probably be as obvious as telling apart a bolt-action vs a semi-automatic rifle. Unless your rifle was designed to have fake radiators, if you wanted to hide you were using a magical energy weapon for some reason. Although the conceptual emissions would always be detectable.

The magnet sounds like a defense vulnerability if you can block the radiator with magnetic dust. Then again if you know where the enemy would shoot then you can engineer defenses around that.

>> No.50431928

>>50431403
Yeah, that could be a good counter. Still, it would be easier to defend small ports to expel and suck up liquid metal from, than trying to armor large radiator panels that need to be exposed to the vacuum. The idea is that if the enemy shoots your liquid metal, it doesn't really matter, the projectiles/missiles just go through or explode the liquid metal harmlessly. On the other hand, if the weapon hits thin radiators, it disables them.
So you exchange vulnerability to common weapons for a vulnerability to a dedicated countermeasure.

Yeah, most metals tend to get softer as you increase their temperature, iron and steel for example. Some engineered materials are orders of magnitude harder than others at the same temp though, for example, inconel stays almost at maximal hardness at temperatures that make common steel alloys very soft.
While those materials don't currently exist, it's plausible that specialized materials could be developed that get hot enough to melt metal while retaining their strength. Maybe some kinds of metal-ceramic composites?
>>50485335
Based. One issue with melee weapons is that you need to use your limbs to swing or thrust it at speeds fast enough to deal damage and bypass defenses, the pile bunker doing the thrusting action for you bypasses this drawback. It would be pretty well suited to that armor piercing chuubanite weapon.

I think they'd be a decent countermeasure against simple tangling, since the ultrasonic vibration is designed to make the blade kinda frictionless, so it wouldn't get jammed as easily through friction. But with the hooked metal wire thing, if the wire is hard enough to not get cut I think it would still prevent the blade from cutting.

>> No.50498344

>>50497877
I guess the trick is to design the wire so it weaves into cloth but still has hooks on the outer layer. Keep in mind the energy it takes to produce the cloth is high. Not to mention repairing the cloth is costly. Bullets would still go through it. Cloak exists as a deterrent to melee weapons. It takes high skill to use. So it'll most likely be a weapon for custom built mechs and pilots.
