Oh absolutely, and I think it can be leveraged as part of any sort of wave/unit debut, just not specifically two characters from an established semi-obscure VN property, bankrolled by a smallish localization company with a checkered reputation. I think the writing was on the wall since it's not like the travelers were going to buy multiple copies of Rance ad infinitum to make a vtuber project worthwhile. There's corpo talents like Nijisanji and Hololive, and then there's CORPORATE talents, like Crunchyroll's vtuber, and I think the sisters would do fine as the former but them being the latter always had a mild stink about it. They 'failed' because they were vtubers for a VN company that were hired to promote the VN's that the company sold. On top of that, their 'tour guide' duties really cut into their available stream time and had them semi-inconsistant. Beyond that, it's just not being in one of the 'big names' or being able to make connections with many indies because they were semi-corpo. Some might not like the vocal characteristics they had as well. Add it all together and they fell through the cracks. If they would have been or join a bigger corpo, they'll do just fine.

This is my theory about why they don't want to go back as streamers anymore:
Doing a duet stream is not an easy thing to do, I mean look at Game Grumps, they never stream and their contents are edited videos. It's hard to get chemistry between two people especially for constant weekly content making. It can be exhausting and can create faster burnout than normal solo streamer.

Even with the whole "sister unity" thing the entire point of their dynamic was supposed to be that you choose one. Cover could easily do split merch even if they were joined at the hip for every stream and it'd work because they have a lot of experience selling it. Remember that left-twix right twix ad campaign? Even if the merch is sold together they can also sell it on the idea that the consumer is making a "choice" when they buy both. There were a few /vt/ threads about vods getting removed after the announcement. However, if there was any update later on, I missed it. So you may be right. Still, it's better to archive locally. A lot of content has been removed from the internet lately.

I don't know about video removal but it make me sick of my stomach that old videos that part of my internet past might be deleted. I can download some of them but I'm afraid I will lose some of them because I temporarily forget about them.
